Painting or "Staining" Plate Carriers to Different Colors

Soooo I was wondering if anyone has converted their plate carriers color to a different color somehow. I want to get this black plate carrier into a Tan one. I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in this process. Post pics of it too. I've heard krylon paint (lightly) is a fast way but it's properties like any other spray paint on material causes it to stiffen. Dyes are sometimes hard to pinpoint the "right" tan because every washer is different. I know it's be easier to just wait to buy the tan color but I'd rather not at the moment. Anyone? Thanks

I know most plate carriers are made from nylon fibers, witch inherently is hard to get dies or stains to catch.

sell the black one and just purchase a tan one. Painting wont come out tan at all, it will come out a dark puke like blotched cover and look like paint, not colored fabric.

I've done it before with an older plate carrier, I painted my rig to go from Condor Tan into Coyote Brown. I think it really only works best going to and from similar colors. Your best bet is to just buy a tan plate carrier.

As others have said, you're better off getting another one. I doubt it'll be worth the effort you'd have to put in. If you paint it, it won't be worth as much because it'll look bad when the paint wears off which will probably be fast. Spray glue the vest then rub it in the dirt.

I kinda figured anyways. Haha I've put of a few "wanted" ads for Tan plate carriers. Thanks everyone. I was running a PMC or "Organizational" Field Agent type loadout and I was thinking that wearing a black Under Armour t-shirt and a black plate carrier was a little too much black and hard to designate teams when its between green and tan. Thanks everyone for your input!

Alright, story time;

I had the opportunity to try dying an OD Condor nylon jacket black. I used fabric dye that was intended for some work with nylon (allegedly).

I ended up with a dark turquoise jacket that expelled dye no matter how many days I left it to wring out in the yard. My landlord was very kind considering the kind of shenanigans I've got up to in the past, and just asked me to clean the mess off the floor while he showed a prospective tenant around.

He didn't make that rental agreement that day.

Anyway, don't use anything less than genuine RIT dye. Only chemical solutions will work on nylon fibre.
