Kill light, recommendations?
I've signed up for a game that is night play. What do you recommend for a kill light? I've read about glow sticks, red flashlights, red led strobe type. What do the rest of you prefer and why? Thanks for your input.

Chemlights (glowsticks) are the most popular and affordable choice. But some people will use Vlites and the like instead. Personally I recommend the chemlights, but its all up to you.
Vlites aren't a bad idea. Just for a new guy real vlites and Manta Strobes might be a little pricey. Chemlights are cheap, plentiful and you can carry allot of them. |

Get a red LED stick from Canadian Tire or Walmart. They cost around $5 and can be turned off when you are not dead. Also they don't glow in your pockets like a glow stick and give you away.

I got two life gear red flashlight glow sticks from crappy tire last year and they are both still going strong. One click for flash light (white) second click red glow stick with white light. Third click just red glow stick. And click number 4 gives you a red flashing glow stick.
As Eeyore has said they can be turned off have a lanyard so you wont drop it and battires can be changed. For 3.99 each you cant go wrong. Hope that helps.

I have the same one that yte has, and it work great. Better then buying a glow stick every time,

Red Glowstick. Im going to engage any other red light because any smart player in a night game will have a red flashlight filter to keep low profile and for your night eyes.

We use these
they are bicycle clip on lights. They will clip to MOLLE and can do on/flash/off. We get them in packs of 4 and the two AA batteries last for about a year and a half of use. |

Pretty much everyone here uses those Life Gear electric glow sticks from CT and they work fine. The shape (and ability to have it strobe) removes any confusion about it being a Kill Light. The built in white LED flash light (which can be used at the same time as the red glow stick) is also useful for easily navigating back to respawn.
And best of all, if you register on the website you can get free replacement batteries (details are in the battery compartment).

You can also find them at dollar stores. I bought them from there. Saved me $5 per stick. Haven't broken one yet and if they do, it's only a buck!

If you want to save money on glow sticks go to Dollarama and get the 10-pack of mini glow sticks in the party section for $2, for purposes of marking a kill they should be more then fine. I guess the only issue is that it's in multiple colours (mainly white from what I've noticed though). Dollarama also occasionally carries the Sylvania Dot-it Lite sticks for $2, just got a red one and it works fine. It seems to be pretty well sealed and has either constant or flashing modes.

Dollarama has the sylvania LED glow sticks for $2 like kutter said. No white light flashlight to flip through while cycling modes to turn it on or off. Just red strobe or solid red on. No whistle part either which many electric ones, like at CT, seem to have now. Lanyard is attached to the bottom instead of a frail attachment point on the battery compartment.
Canadian tires/Walmart sell the ones with whistle for $5+ I also usually carry dollarama chem sticks. Cheap, bright enough, and don't care if I lose them or use them as markers. Last edited by coach; June 18th, 2012 at 20:47.. |
