Ares G36 and Li-Po 7.4
So I am having problem with my G36. I decided to post this new thread to start new. The problem is the gun clicks but doesn't shoot. From my research I believe this is because the 7.4 Li-Po is not strong enough to pop the gearbox open to get it unstuck ( AEG Troubleshooting - Situation 2: Gun does NOT shoot, makes a grinding/clicking noise - YouTube - qoute from this video) He describes my problem well.
So... should I just run into my local hobbies store and run 10-40 round through it with a higher voltage battery? When I do that should I have to buy the new higher voltage battery or keep the 7.4 once I've run the higher voltage with 10-40 rounds. Thanks all of you who have helped me. Really appreciate it. |

What FPS are you running the gun at? If it's like 450 FPS or something, then use the quick change spring feature and pop in an M120 or M110 spring and you should be good to go with a 7.4 Lipo.
Running a higher voltage battery for a few rounds does nothing to solve your problem. The reason WHY it will cycle on a higher voltage is BECAUSE it's sending more current to the motor (eg. you get more "torque" to be able to pull the spring back with higher voltage). Either downgrade your spring, or run like a 9.6 or 10.8V NiMH or 11.1V Lipo, or get a torque up motor (relatively easy drop in upgrade, comparable to changing spring using quick spring change feature) or torque up gears (least desirable because this means you have to go inside your gearbox).

Ok so I will probably buy a new battery. A stronger one. What do you guys suggest for this gun?
Please answer these 2 questions. 1. Why did the 7.4 Li-Po work for about a week then now im am having these problems. 2. Is there any other reasons why an airsoft may have this problem? Click but not shoot? |

LOCATE A GUNDOC AND HAVE HIM EXAMINE/FIX THE GUN. You've already indicated you're not gearbox savvy, and it's very difficult to diagnose this problem on a forum without knowing your specific internal setup. Plus, this is your third thread post on this topic. Having said that (and I hate going against my own recommendations), my GUESS as to your problem: 1) You overcharged your LiPo. It is now toast. (They don't always blow up/catch on fire if you overcharge them, but the overcharge will kill the battery's chemistry.) This assumes you're using a standard wall charger, not a smart charger. If you have a NiMH battery available, plug that in and see if the motor turns. 2) Toasted or carbon-scored trigger switch. Can be fixed by cleaning the switch contacts. |

A 7.4V LIPPO IS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO CYCLE!!! It is better than a 9.6v hi-cad/ Nihmf!!!! Lippo batteries are high output batteries and dont have the same rating as hi-cad/ nihmf batteries. You dont need a higher power battery. Unless its a HUGE 9.6 V battery, it wont be better than a 7.4v lippo.
Now that thats out of the way I told you before on the other thread what your problem is. WIRES, MICRO-SWITCH, OR PINION GEAR! and i will bet money its the micro-switch or pinion gear! Ares guns dont have contacts, they have Micro-switches, they are crap (from factory) and you need to get a new one (radio shack) Also try your gun with a different battery before assuming its the battery. I will try a new battery first and if that doesn't work what can I look for on the pinion gear? Is there any way to tell if that is te problem for sure. After that I will try a new micro switch.

When the gun "clicks", Does it sound like the motor is moving at all ? even a little bit? Also look up youtube videos on motor height adjustment, you could be making it too tight and that will cause things to jam back up after a few rounds. |

I actually do have a multimeter! Could you explain how I would test that? I think It is the pinion gear but when you watch the videos you can hear the guns gear still fully pulling the spring back and firing, and as they adjust it you can hear it get worse and eventually start to buzz! With mine no matter where i adjust the pinion gear it just locks back and makes the click noise.

This is my pinion gear. looks fine to me. |

But if any sound is coming from the gun (not the click from the micro-switch), then it should work. Also another way to test electrical is ,when you remove the motor, just put the connections back on the motor and test the motor (outside of gun). If the motor spins with consistency then your micro switch is fine, It's if its studdering , then you know its the switch (or wiring). While the motor is removed look at the pinion gear (obviously). Try that and let me know |

ok so it's deffinatly not the wiring cause the motor works fine. When i pull the trigger with the motor out it spins fine and constantly. So it is indeed the pinion gear? Why is it that in the videos you can hear the gun fire as they are adjusting it but with mine it just locks up?

Well, that narrows things down a bit .
you will generally be able to see if the pinion gear is messed up, there wont be much teeth left. (i can send you some picks of a new one and a worn one) (tonight) But if that looks ok, then it could be a tooth is chipped off a gear in the mechbox and that piece is getting things jammed up and your gears are stuck. At this point you gotta open the gearbox again look for any chipped teeth and make sure your bushings are properly pushed in. That is important, if one bushing isnt in properly it will jam things up, also be careful not to lose and of those little washers (shims). Make sure they go where you found them, because that will also make things jam up if they arent where they are meant to be. But it might not be the pinion gear anymore. Something is jamming your gears, either a chipped tooth on the gears, bushing not "clipped in" all the way, Misplaced shims. Welcome to the life of AEG troubleshooting :x: watch some youtube on how to put your gearbox together, it will teach you some tricks to make it easier on you when putting it back together |

Well... honestly at this point I'd rather spend time looking for someone who can fix it for me. this is overwhelming. I will try a different battery tommorow but if that doesn't work then... i will have someone else look at it.

omg so I opened it up again and im looking a two gear and the bevel gear has a chipped tooth and the biggest gear has a chipped tooth. So what now? New gearbox or new gears? Are ares gear proprietory?

yup, figured that. Your gonna need new gears. And they arent proprietary. So you can order what ever ones you like and put them in. Unfortunate it was the gears though.
