I'm a purist in the sense that I like my guns black / blued and like my AKs steel + wood.

But I really like the look of this.

I have never really been a fan ok the AK platform, but this has me thinking I need an AK. I just hope its not hugely over priced because of all the Magpul goodies.

I like the AK for its looks, and certainly appreciate it for what it is as a weapon. But I don't particularly like the platform in terms of ergonomics, operation, etc. They're a bit unwieldy, heavy, not comfortable to use, etc. But this could actually change that. I like the Magpul bling, I like the more ergonomic controls, ambi cocking, etc.

Never thought I'd be saying that about an AK...

Aslong as this Ak isn't way over priced because its "Magpuled", this will be my first AK.

I like it. Personally I hate the AK47. But the AK74 is very nice. And buying an AK-47 and throwing in 74 mags doesn't look right to me. This does though. Very nice.

Unfortunate they made some generic magpul gun and haven't anything new to show for their p90, mp5, dragunov, etc.

I'm happy to see an AK-102/4/5 style sight/gas block and rail; personally would have preferred a side folder stock (I think everyone is familiar with my AK105 by now). The suppressor is meh on this platform.

Considering WE made the AKS-74U and obviously have a full size AK front end (PMC, etc), I'm baffled as to why they still haven't put out a more traditional AKS-74/74M, and with this new front end they could easily make an AK-104 and/or AK-105. This is just by mixing and matching existing parts they already produce.

leveraging existing platforms to maximize market penetration is good business..

They know there is a large pool of AK purests out there waiting to snap up a classic AK47 or an AKM or AK74 all wooded up...

But they also know the AK lovers will buy the modern variants, and some people who never considered an AK before will buy a "magpulized" AK

What they are doing is very good marketing..

you want to plumb the depths of one market before dropping a new product on the market.. also .. I have heard that they are having licensing issues with FN and HK ( may be just a rumor ) and can't go to production for those products until those issues are resolved

Considering they haven't done over saturation like G&P did with WOC or Western Arms with their 1911, M9, and AR-15 lineup it isn't that bad.

AR-15: M4, M16, CQBR, hk416, T91 (Five total)
SCAR: CQBR (one)
PDW: long/shot (two)
M14: Classic, EBR, MCS (three)
G36: Compact, Kurz, RAS, Standard (four)
L85: Standard (one)
AK: S74UN, PMC, now with Magpul (three)

Hoping they improved the internals, and not only disguising it with some Magpul 1337 shit on it just to sell more.

Not that i'm not liking AK's, I love them. I just wonder why companies don't spend more on researching and creating better OEM parts for their guns.

Cost.. low cost parts = low cost gun..

and with a partner like RA-Tech stepping up to produce upgrades.. you can get a solid platform going for a "reasonable Price"

I understand this, but I find this sad that every WE users need to buy RA-Tech parts to make the gun "solid and reliable".
