Future-proof (upgradeable) GBB M4 recommendation

I'm in the Canadian Forces and am looking for a GBB airsoft gun that looks and feels like the real thing (C7 in my case). I guess the best place to start is an M4 - since they're everywhere - and upgrade from there.

What I'm looking for:

* functioning bolt
* realistically weighted
* easily upgradeable parts
* $200-$400
* can be purchase from (or be shipped to) canada (from online retailer or not)

Emphasis here is on easily upgradeable parts. I know I could just jump ahead and buy something like an WETTI M4, but the price is pretty steep. It would be better to buy something cheaper, and when I get money along the road, I'll slowly upgrade the specific parts until it has a high value. I don't want to have to buy a whole new weapon because something somewhere isn't compatible with higher-grade parts.

I feel like the King Arms GBB M4A1 is a good buy, but it doesn't look like I can get it here in Canada.

Any recommendations or advice is appreciated,
Thanks

The only 2 guns I would consider for an M4 model would be the WE and KJW. Both guns cost around 400$. The WE will NEED upgrade parts to function reliably (hammer, sealing mags, etc) while the KJW can be used out of the box. There are more upgrade parts available for WE, but everything you need is available for the KJW. You can put M4 attachments onto both guns. Personally I'd recommend the KJW from experience, but it's up to you. Only thing to remember is buy cheap, buy twice.

The WE Open Bolt M4 isn't too far outside of your price range...I just bought a CQBR for $500.00 and there are tons of upgrades, both internal and external, to choose from.

There really isn't anything cheaper airsoft isn't cheap. Plus your going to need mags. At 30rds each (you know how much you will need to carry) and 40 (WE) to 70 (KJW which) dollar per mag price goes up pretty steep.

My recommendation is the WE M16/M4 GBBR Open Bolt it has lots of kick and can go toe to toe with KJW reliability out of the box. And has more upgrade parts. Plus WE guns are generally Milspec so real steel accessories fit like they do on real steel guns.

Hate to break it to you, that's the entry line for GBBR.

Absolutely agree. There really ain't anything cheaper in the "serious" GBB market.

Well there are King Arms, G&P and AGM which are WA clones. But those are meh. Now a real WA is very nice. And a Inkotasku? Well its like the Systema PTW of GBBRs.

Plus there are VFC and KWA.

dude if you ever work on a WA you will know how poor the design is (WE is not much better stock)

Never touch King Arms, but own G&P (which is essentially KA w/ Steel trigger group) stuff breaks before 10k, base on the wear of steel trigger I would say KA wouldn't last 5k without problem. AGM is POS simple highest count I've heard stock was 2k with an average of 500.
Inokatsu is an overinflated WA gun. If you read what Taiwanese forum said how it was made you would puke.
-> Stamp seamline on the finished receiver (NEVER SEEN one AR-15 had that, not even a Chinese Norinco CQ556A)
-> Lower Receiver was designed based of a 3D image of Systema PTW lower
-> Upper Receiver was designed based of a WA M4 Receiver and strech lengthwise (hence the reason brass deflector shape is off)
-> Internal are copy of WA (3D scan)
-> Yeah, yeah, yeah steel internal, CNC aluminium (T6061 NOT T7075, I REPEAT T6061 NOT T7075, people have tried to sue Ino for false marketing)

If you have to go with the best WA system gun, go with Viper (former OEM of Inokatsu, they split because Inokatsu just want to clone WA gun, not improve it)
Medium range go with KJW or WE (keep everything stock until you save up money to upgrade internal, do it at the same time to avoid issues)
KWA/KSC's M4 to me is a interesting gun. Having a stable fps, improve hopup (no more ball bearing) and good company track record.

Do you know much about the design of the KWA ARs? Were they originally based on the WA designed or something completely different?

Friend of mine opened one up and he's slightly disappointed in the design of the KWA/KSC M4's. Best bet would be KJW or WE Open Bolt.

Also, cheap option for just having a GBBR would be to get the GHK drop in kit but I'm disappointed in it (I was sent a unit for review). It's cool to have just to have it but gamewise I'd never trust that thing. The only thing I'd really do with it is plink and have it as a wallhanger.

I'm going to have to look it up. Look thru arms-cool forum (Taiwan version of Airsoft Canada in their Toy Rifle section. The thread with 10+ on Inokatsu was the case. A lot of it was talking about how there were 50 M16A4 batch that were sold for $300 (people suspect it was stolen goods)

As for KSC M4, I'm talking about the Gen 3.

Gen 1: Two piece upper design, ball bearing hopup only available as M4A1, M4A1 CQBR
Gen 2: steel bolt carrier, otherwise the same, LM4 Magpul
Gen 3: Supposedly offer new hopup design, single piece upper

The biggest win on KSC is the gas consistency. If you chrono their first shot and last shot on auto expect ~20fps change max at 25C It's a really really gas efficienct design.

System 7 was build on gas vapourization.
WE's Open Chamber in my opinion resembles Marui's system.

What did you expect from someone who mentions "PTW" in the same post as a GBBR?

Oh except Inokatsu markets their MTW as a Professional Training Weapon and it boasts exceptional realistic trades. Didn't you hear they claim to have fooled Blackwater Operatives with their latest model.. It also bears mention that WE markets the WETTI AWSS as a training weapon as well.
