Removing Ares M4A1 Sights for Red Dot
Yesterday I bought a Red Dot sight for my M4 thinking that it would help me with target spotting.
The problem I am having right now is that the Red Dot lines up perfectly with my Rails but the front Ironsight is in the way of the view, I took my gun apart today and could not figure out how to get the sights off. Or am i supposed to leave the front sights on? Really new to this so if anyone can lend a few words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated. Worst case, I take it to the gun techs at our arena in winnipeg Edit: After looking through some photos of the M4A1 they are using a elevated Rail to move the red dot sight higher up. The Front Iron sight stays... Crap |

Leave the front sight on.
Look up co-witnessing. |

The problem with that is that the red dot will aim at the middle of the front sight, so I cant exactly CO-witness the sight properly
Edit: Lifted the red dot up. Works well. Will have to sight it tomorrow. Thanks Styrak Last edited by Ryan92; December 4th, 2011 at 03:04.. |

Assuming you're talking about the front triangle sight post... you can remove it and opt for a low profile gas block instead. Something like this or this. The latter being railed will allow you to use a flip-up battle sight in front for co witnessing or as a back up is case your optic goes down. This one has a flip up sight built in. There are many options and combinations out there. Either of these options would clear up your sight picture if you wish to just use your optic by itself.
Gas blocks are held on by a set of pins and or grub screws and are necessary for keeping your handguard and gas tube in place. You should be able to find a tutorial video on how to change it online. Last edited by Kozzie; December 4th, 2011 at 03:45.. |

If your red dot is to short to line up with the front sight, it's too short to use properly.
Need a riser or new red dot. |
