Connectors: xt60 vs deans
Hey guys,
I got some new batteries from hobbyking, and I'm wondering whether I should switch the batteries to deans or the gun to xt60? Sure deans is more common, but aside from that, which one is better? |

XT60 for sure. Easy to solder and unlike deans the solder joint doesn't break as easily.
I personally don't like deans (and although they're better than Tamiyas.... it's considered stone age technology in the RC world) and I'm planning on switching to Trx, EC3's or XT60's for my next project gun.

I switched to deans because all the kids were doing it. I really care much for them. Soldering a wire to a flat surface is annoying. I haven't switched to XT60's yet because I already switched part of my team over. I personally will switch all my own guns to something else.
I think you can get legit XT60's for cheaper than deans. Its been a while since I looked. |

If you know what you're doing deans plugs are fine to solder to. I had to do it at work all the time when I worked at a hobby shop, so I got good quick.
I don't use the xt60 connectors simply because nobody else does, and I have around 3 dozen lipos, so it would cost a LOT to do. If you want bullet connector style plugs, you could also look into EC3. |

By not being flat like deans, they fixed the major complaint I had about deans which was taking them apart, my fingers would always slip... |

I have also been looking at XT60 since I'm ordering from Hobbyking a lot these days and their prices are so crazy low that you can actually begin to care about little details like connector ergonomics rather than just simply getting by. I strongly dislike soldering Deans and anything that would make it easier would be a huge plus.
I've read a few reviews of XT60 vs. Deans on RC sites, and people seem to really like XT60 for ergonomic factors as well as soldering (as mentioned above). I like the idea that I could load up on these on the cheap from hobbyking and know I have the "legit" ones whereas with Deans it's kind of a tossup... even when it isn't. |
