Vest Question

Im planning on getting a Cross Draw vest from Blackhawk and it comes in black and olive drab but after browsing a few events I have noticed some saying no black gear must be camo with matching color gear etc. I was wondering how often those games come up because I'd like to get the black one but if it would allow me to goto more games with the olive drab I guess i'd grab that.

Thanks

gear color often determines which team you will play with.
black makes you stand out in pretty much any environnement.
OD can be matched with many outifts so it's convenient. camo is best for concealement.
usually for team selection it's more about BDU color than gear color.

if you want to own just one loadout, black is not the most convenient color.

While black might look cool to some, it really only useful at night or in some urban environments. Unless those two situations are going to make up the bulk of your playing (which they're most-likely not) then you'd be best off going with some sort of camo or at least OD.

Somewhat off-topic, but you mentioned the vest is a cross draw. This is really only my personal opinion, but cross draws are a waste of good vest space. Really only for a sniper do they make much sense. Otherwise you'd be better off getting a drop leg or even a shoulder holster for your sidearm and save the vest space. After all, the space that the holster takes up could hold at least four mags for your rifle. With the frequency you'll be using your rifle versus using your sidearm, you'll want the extra rifle mags.

black will give you away at night, it creates a void whch the eye can see. Dark camo (DPM etc) is fantastic at night.

Black is great when there are ten guys breaching a room all in matching blue coveralls and black vests with gas masks and nomex hoods; Mp5s with flashlights seal the deal. That really never happens in game.

We had a guy here who loved his black vest over a woodland BDU. He always got shot first.

Most games will split along the following lines:
- green vs. tan
- analogue vs. digital
- NATO vs. other

They also rely on, "predominant impression". So if someone were to glance at you running by and said..."that guy is wearing green"...then you'd be classed as being on the green team.

Black belt/boots/balaclava/gloves/etc...is not going to mess that up.

A tan chest rig on a Woodland/DPM head to toe setup...isn't really going to confuse everyone in thinking that you're on Tan instead of Green.

So...I think most people go with what the BDU's are and ignore the rig (unless it's vast like an MBSS/CIRAS).

So in that sense....don't worry so much about the rig.

BUT...you'll probably find that OD is a lot more flexible and efficient in field games vs. a black rig. For that matter...a TAN/Coyote Brown rig might be too.

You may find that eventually you end up with a "Green" setup and a "Tan" setup....either because you set things up one way for field games and another for CQB, or you prefer to be on this side or that of a game, etc...
