Considering OC-14 mod

Hi, Im considering an OC-14 Groza mod but Im just wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to start. Obviously Im going to be needing an ak receiver and some other exterior parts but which gearbox and trigger assembly would be the most compatible with this receiver? Ive narrowed the search down to the famas, l85, aug, or type 97 (which makes the most sense but are hard to find cheaply)

I'd imagine the best place to start would be an AKS74U as they are what OC14's are based off of.

You'll just need to figure a creative means of hiding the motor. Alternatively, you could always pick up a GBBR AKS74U (SRC Perhaps?) and work on from there.

well i was thinking the best way to get around it would be to buy the type 97 and use the motor and trigger assembly from that and stick it in a body from the aks74u but the 97s are painfully expensive. the more i think about the logistics the more discouraged i get . I may go back to my other custom idea for an sks rifle using the m14 gearbox, that or a bizon. a groza would just be so so sweet tho. theres a guy in russia whos made a kit using formed pieces so its pretty legit looking but i havnt heard much about it in some time, that and it would never make it past customs. another issue with the groza is the safety selector switch and how to get it working properly in the correct position with a different gearbox.

hey how about the famas? does anyone own one or think it would be possible to fit the internals into an ak body?

could be but the mechbox is an odd shape. the groza OC-14 would have to be some serious body modifications to make it work

I'd definatly try and build a VEPR2 instead. similar look but you could build a lot of it with normal parts. You need to stop thinking of different guns internals and start thinking of Mechbox versions IMO.

take a look at mechbox.com and look at the different versions.

I've actually worked out the parts and such the parts that puzzle me are the trigger, upper hand gaurd and the front sight (i think a standard armalite sight will work)

Maybe Slice an old V3 up for just the lower portion? that way you can even use it for the pistol grip still.

Upper hand guard made me think of an M14 heatshield, though I think you'd need to cut the slats into one. Possibly go for a railed one like this? A little more tacticool, but if you don't mind or would like it like that, I think it'd look pretty decent.

Front sight looks a bit longer than an Armalite one, but it'd work just fine.

yeah I was actually thinking about re-wiring the mechbox itself to a different switch up front.

the hand guard would look cool tactical, but otherwise I think a cut and sanded piece of wood will suffice

sorry for the thread jacking

I don't think anyone is complaining RITZ, I for one would love to see a build log thread when you start.

Excellent, Though just noticing now that you may not be able to fit the standard motor and cage into that butt thing, might need to gear it somehow if you want V3 that is anyways, or maybe a shorter motor type would be easier.
