VHF vs UHF

After being at Tac-11 and talking with Frank from tech direct, and I've been sold on dumping my talkabout for something with a little... nay a lot more power and range.

Would getting a 5 watt VHF/UHF radio, read the Puxing PX-888D be helpful in milsim or skrim environment?

I would get licensed for it as a matter of course but would having something of that power be overkill for larger games? ie Border wars, op Rhino etc?

UHF in Canada. VHF, you won't be able to speak with anyone else anyways

You don't need to be "licensed".
And yes, 5 watt radios are much better than anything you can get at RadioShack, etc.

Also make sure the radio you get is in the 400-470mhz range.

ok heres a question then since i havnt obviously seen it looking around about this radio tech direct has the YSHON AT-2118/3118 UHF FM TWO-WAY RADIO for 22 bucks and it pumps out at 2.5 watts operating in the 450-470 MHz range.

now this would be perfectly fine operating paramiters for most peoples UHF Comms?

I picked one up at tac11 havent gotten to play around with it much but seems solid. working out a headset/ptt with tech... damn anomaly of a pin

I picked up the Puxing PX-888 from TAC-11 and love it!
I used to have a Cobra FRS and it blows horse ass compared to the UHF.

Just get he WOUXUN KG-UVD1P and your problem is solved. UHF and VHF dual band, and is very similar to the Puxing PX-888. By the way, the "D" version of the PX-888 makes it so that you can't program the channel name in the keypad but is otherwise the same. The WOUXUN takes the same two pin kenwood accessories, and can even use the Puxing programming cable.

I have the WOUXUN, same model, and I agree, it is the best I've found, for a great price. Fully programmable and has a very broad frequency range.

I grabbed a bunch of Puxing 777's (UHF) from TechSeller earlier this month; love em.

I'm using a FDC FD288 UHF, small, compact, doesn't have dual band, but with shipping from HK only came to about $75CDN, and I love the battery life, 120hrs standby.
