Easiest AK-47 mags to take apart for real-cap modding?

I'm wondering which AK-47 mid/low-cap mags are easily taken apart and put back together securely. I would like to try modding them into real-caps as described by Drake in this post. I'd just "short fill" my mags but Drake pretty much nailed why I don't want to rely on short-filling mags in that same post. The post mentioned G&P AK mags which I may try. I just wonder if anyone knows of any other brands that will work.

The only real-cap mags I've found (and use) are the Star 30 rd mags. They're cheap and work OK, but I want something a little more high quality and durable. I'm currently running a G&G AK-47.

As posted in that thread, I picked up a set of Classic Army AK-74 locap mags: I've since used them at several games and they've work great and fed flawlessly (again this is with a CYMA body and a King Arms mag catch: the stock mag catch may or may not hold them properly and I haven't tried with the DBOYS/Kalash yet since its still in parts for modding).

The CA mags are basically built like Marui mags and can be taken apart just as easily: it consists of an outer shell (plastic in this case), a plastic interior magazine/BB well which slides into the outer shell, held in place by a pin through the forward edge/lip of the mag and a baseplate which is held on with a hex screw (which goes into a metal nut in the interior mag).

Once taken out, the interior mag consists of two halves, held in pace with 5 small phillips screws -- basically the same as a TM M4 or AK mag. Easy to take apart and mod. As with other mags, reassembling can be a bit of a pain since you need to get the spring back into the half shells, except it'll now be under more tension due to the backfilled BBs. It's not a problem, just annoying and a bit tedious.

Also note that the crosspin is in there pretty snugly and you'll need a 1.5mm rollpin punch to get it out.

That certainly is an option. I was hoping for AK47 mags that would do the trick. I know AK74 would work. It's just that 74 mags in a 47 gun throw the aesthetics a bit...off. Hopefully the CA AK-47 mags are built the same?

Oh 47, my bad (its too early, brain hasn't finished booting).

Well TM mags for sure, and they're built like tanks. I also have a King Arms here, beefy metal shell as well and can be taken apart easily too, but I don't know how reliable it is. Also the crosspin has been loose from day 1, and it's the only thing holding the mag together; dunno if I got a lemon or if this is common.

If you're looking for plastic (waffle) AK47 mags, I'd guess the G&Ps are built the same way as their AK74 counterparts so they shouldn't be a problem to disassemble either.

Haha well I figured something like that might happen since your first post was 0722 QC time.

I might try to the King Arms 70rd Metal mags for modding. Even if the mod doesn't work out I'd still have some low-cap mags. Too bad someone bought the last batch from AirsoftParts.

Don't know about anyone else, but I like having to be more careful with my shots and having to reload. I don't really like spamming BBs while spraying and praying. Limited ammo adds a sense of urgency and makes "combat" more immersive and visceral. By that same token I want to try going in intentionally "undergunned" this season.

I picked up 2nd last batch of King Arms mags :P hehe
Let us know if you do mod it, how it went. If I find some time I'll try the mod myself.

Besides having the realism I like that you can count your shots. Its hard to count to 70 especially when you only filled 63 or something
