Spur gear + piston problem.

Hey guys i have a very wierd problem here ( dont worry i looked in the doctors corner and faqs but didnt find anything ) . I purchased high torque gears for my AUG and now it ate my stock piston the first game i did with i. Now with a new piston ( APS V.3 ) when i close back the gearbox when i try to fire, the spur gear ( placed at the 1 o clock position ) rubs against the back of the piston ( the little nub that sticks out before the first tooth ) and gets stuck or just goes back to the uncycled position. Anyone ever had that problem??

Like i said very wierd i never heard anything like it when installing a new set of Gears and yes it is for version 2 and 3 gearboxes. Thanks guys hope someone can help me out here.

Compare the total lengths of the old piston+piston head and the new piston + head. You're new setup is probably too short (thus setting the first tooth too far forward to be engaged properly by the sector gear). Are you mixing brands of parts for the piston body and piston head?

You could try a different piston body/head combo or put in a spacer/washer to increase the length accordingly.

Also...it's a common thing to shave the 2nd tooth of the piston so that the sector gear clears it for sure. If it tags it when cycling it messes up the teeth.

Note:
By first tooth of the piston I am referring to the big tooth right at the rear of the piston, it is the first tooth to engage with the sector gear...the 2nd tooth is 2nd from the rear, etc....

Thanks for the reply mate.

Yes i did mix the stock JG head with the new APS Piston and the piston came with the second tooth already shaved off. I tried my friends piston too which were the very same lengh as my sotck piston assembly. Whats wierd is that even my stock piston assembly does the same thing ( i guess thats why the last 3 teeth totally chipped off ) might it be the AoE? ill try to shim it thatnks for the advice.

no luck.. another thing that i saw with the new gears is that the lower axles are a little longer, done know if it changes anything but it seems that when theres no tention on the motor spring adjustment, the bevel gear just turns by itself or barely puts pressure on the spur gear.. Now im just totally lost in all this nonsense.

The sector gear is the one that directly engages with the piston, the spur gear is the one between the sector and bevel gear
Some gears are specifically meant to be used with that same brand of piston
(IE prometheus pistons and prometheus gears)
What gears did you buy specifically? Guarder/modify/systema, torque, super torque, etc?

Hehe i noticed earlier :P Thanks for the heads up Thunder =D They are Modify HT and i just figured out the wierdest thing i dont know if its normal but.. The lower teeth part came lose and i can take it out with my fingures along with the upper axle =( I tried shimming the Piston head around 1/8 and it still didnt change anything but now i got a bigger problem ( Bevel gear fail i think )

I hate modify parts, I just don't trust anything they make.
If your going to pick up a new gearset, get a prometheus torque or double torque set, and a prometheus piston.
Well worth the cost since they last forever

yep, for sure. Ill probably just get the whole kit ( double torques, piston, piston head, spring guide, bearings ). Oh one more thing, is the aluminium super shooter GB good? because i dont feel like putting all that expensive hardware in a JG GB ( i have an AUG by the way )

IMO It's overkill. Never had a problem using good old 7mm G&P mechboxes. They're tough as nails and I haven't had any fitment problems with them.
