Guntech Warning: ALWAYS CHECK THE BATTERIES

Hey there, this is a warning to anyone that's working on anyone else's guns or even borrowing anyone else's batteries..

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE SHIELDING ON THE WIRES ARE INTACT OR PROPERLY REPAIRED!!

I recently received a gun from a client that wanted some work done to it.

When I received the battery it was taped up in 3 sections, I erroneously assumed that this was to make installation of the battery easier.

Upon completing the gun, plugging in the battery and testing it, it shorted out, heated the plug up red hot and almost caused a fire.

I'm normally paranoid and extremely carefully handle and inspect LIPO... but now I'm going to be checking EVERY single battery that comes across my bench.

Stay safe!

Those G&G batteries are bad for that... I had one about 2 years ago and it did that.
It was justsitting on the charger for like 15min after I plugged it in.

when I see a hack job on the wiring of batteries or gun, I usually just inform the customer and repair it. Everyone that's doing these quick fixes with electrical tape should really stop.

That is a horrendous looking battery... Whoever would put that in their gun in that condition needs their heads checked or a wake up call...

Solid advice, always check wiring, and nicks, cuts, breaks, repair them properly... Either replace the wire, which is recomended, or cover with heatshrink tubing.

I usually untape batterys when I see em all hacked up.

1) Safety is paramount
2) Its an opportunity for the client to have it properly repaired
3) Electrical tape is cheap to replace if they dont want it repaired.

Yea shorting batteries is bad but honestly it's not a supper big deal to repair them. People need to use more common sense.

But I guess it's not actually that common.

Amos, ship the gun back with a stinky old boot and tell the owner where to stick for doing shit-ass work.

That's terrible.

This was a mistake... there's no need to crucify the owner lol

I'll have a chance to explain to him what he did wrong and how to prevent something like this from happening again in the future.

You're no fun.

The boot would have been funnier than hell.

There are no shielded wires in AEGs! Lol

Reminds me of one of my first games at the Foxden in 2004, one of the vets had just finished charging his homebrew battery, we were talking and he stepped away to take it off the charger, came back, and within a minute it started to get hot and start crackling a bit, he dropped it, Foxtail comes along, scoops it up fast and tosses it into the firepit 10ft away, where it promptly caught fire and burned. Was quite the sight I'll tell you!

Man, I never really took the "start a fire" thing seriously with batteries and stuff. Guess I was wrong...
