UMP: G&G or STAR?+ Battle of the Bullpups
I've got my eye on getting a UMP, I'm done with the AR platform for now. I got a chance to use a friend's G&G at a game once, and it was one of the most fun games I ever played.
My question to you guys is, would you recommend the Star/Ares or the G&G? So far I'm leaning toward the G&G, as the mags seem more common, and they seem to be easier to get in Canada. I like upgrading my guns (esp. Compression system and barrel/hop up) so that's something to take into account as well, which one takes upgrades better?

G&G, personally I'm not a fan of Star but that's just me. My friend does have the UMG by G&G and it handles well, now it was upgraded but still, overall a solid gun.
I guess you can't go wrong with UMPs, as there aren't a lot of models out on the market (other then the G&G, CA, and Star). Just make sure you find a specific custom UMG battery as it doesn't take regular batteries. Good luck |

CA makes a UMP.
I highly recommend it over the G&G and STAR.

Holy cockandballs I forgot about CA. Well that's pretty much settled then. What is the mag compatibility on them?

Speaking from expirience with a G&G UMG i'd go with one over any other. After doing a good amount of research before buying, i've also read that the CA make drains a battery at a much faster rate than the G&G brand - yes this was done on a comparison.
A lot of people expect full metal with CA, but just keep in mind pretty much 90% of a UMP in real life is not metal. ROF is also insane on the G&G UMG with a 9.6v if you're into that at all. |

CA's internals vs G&G internals? hmmmm I say G&G wins. Taiwan product over China product.

Well I'd be replacing CA's horrible piston of doom anyway, since I get aftermarket pistons in all my guns (stock ones always break on me).
Thanks for the link

CA isnt China (Mainland), its Hong Kong. Theres a HUGE difference. CA has far better quality internals than G&G. Both in QC and Materials. G&G may be getting better than the paperweights that they used to sell, but theres no way in hell they compare in quality to a CA. As for Stock fps, that is not a measure of quality, so dont even bother mentioning out of box fps.

What im trying to say, G&G UMP out of the box is good, CA out of the box is also good. You might wanna change the piston head for G&G UMP for better air seal and for CA UMP you might have to change the piston, piston head, bushings and the nozzle. External wise both the same... I hope this helps you spike

I was wondering this question myself. Thank you guys! However, I was told to go with a MP5 instead, although I would like a UMP.

I have G&G UMG with painted upper reciever. I really like it. Great rate of fire, groupings, fps. Solid construction.
Goes trough 8.4v 1300mAh like there is no tommorow though. |

My recommendation would be, if you need a small capable gun. Go with MP5SD6 or similar. It probably be lighter a little, shorter mags which you actually can find, sliding stock (big plus on my books), won't look as badass as UMG but hey..

Thanks for the info guys. I'm actually at a tossup on what I want my new primary to be, and it's down between the UMP and the Tavor. If I pick the UMP, i'll go with either the G&G or the CA, for sure.
