WA's on propane

so, whats the deal with WA's, I've heard that the hicaps slides break easily on propane, and I have a WA para that ive gamed a few times on propane and its been just fine, and Im considering getting a WA M9, and I know I saw a guy that said he'd been running his WA 1911 on propane for 3 years with no problems, so is it ALL WA slides that have a tendency to break on propane? or just specific ones, like the hicaps? more specifically, how will the M9s stand up to propane?

AI(??) use to make a reducer piece that would let 'em run fine on propane.. Look into one of those.

Haven't really had an issue with my Para on propane. No breakage, anyways. One mag is leaking, but I think a seal just let go. Second is brand new, and I haven't filled it yet, so no clue on it lol

Gun X on Gas A will blow apart slides, but not if you use Gas B....

Its not so simple as that you make it out.

Gas is a pressure system and it will vary by gas type and how in works in various gun types.

Remember Physics in School? PV=nRT?

Colder temps....lower pressure, higher temps higher pressure. Then throw in gas types as another variable.

Put HFC22 in a WA and then go and shoot it in the Nevada High Desert in 98 degree F temps and you will crack the slide.

Put in HFC134a and go up to Calgary and play in 10C temps...the gun won't cycle.

Inversely if you run ET2200 in a WA while playing in Calgary when its 20C out. It will most like work just fine with no slide damage.

Know the components of your system and your equipment, it will last a long time if you do. Do something stupid and you can experience dramatic catastrophic failure of your GBB.

What scw version are you looking at? I hear the scw3's are fine for propane as much as TM's in stock form.

Sorry, the flow restrictor is discontinued. Not enough demand now that there are fairly economical CNC aluminum slides out there.

In my experience, the WA slides that break on propane are the heavy weight slides. WA makes some slides with what appears to be a metal powder filling. Dense powder is added to the plastic matrix to increase the weight of the slide. Feels and looks great (nice matte finish), but the metal filler seems to make the slides more crack prone.

WA's lightweight slides (some prokiller models and chrome plated models) seem to go fine on propane. They can't add the metal fillers on the gloss chrome plated slides, perhaps because it interferes with bonding of the plating.

PV=nRT relations do NOT apply with our propellant applications because we rely on a phase transition (liquid to gas) in our mags to achieve a high expansion coefficient. Ideal gas laws only apply in situations far from liquid condensation (higher temp, lower pressure). In our case, we take advantage of a two phase equilibrium which is very non idealized. While temperature does have an effect on pressure, it's effect is quite non linear.

While there is a phase transition, due to the chemical make up of the gas being used. the pressure we derive from a magazine is founded on the gas in the magazine and not the liquid.

Carl,
you seem to forgot about all those Version 1&2 prokillers and infinity parts from me, they are all victim of propane on stock slides even the red hybrid Vreaker or what ever they call it all the slides went to heaven even after your V1 restrictor

With all the parts given to you i think you made like 3 prokillers and some infinity

I have a WA 1911 (old Magna) with a now broken slide because of propane. I wouldn't recommend using it.

I also have a rarer WA Beretta 92FS INOX Perfect Version with white grips. It's got the heavyweight plastic slide, and I'm terrified to use the gun for fear of exploding the slide with propane. It's such a beautiful gun and fires so nice, but I won't shoot it because of that. I've fired it on propane a couple of times to test, and it's amazing. HFC134A performance sucks balls and makes it very disappointing to shoot. So I choose not to use it and keep it as a collector's piece.

You guys with the 1911 / 2011 variants are lucky to have access to affordable replacement metal slides. If you break your slide on propane, for not a lot, you can easily get a replacement. If I break my Beretta slide, I'm SOL.

thing is, Im going to run it on propane anyways, I have a material I can repair a slide with, Ive tested it before when i dropped a gun on my KSC M93R and broke its slide, i glued the ends back to hold them in place then put some denture acrylic on hte inside of the slide and ive fired 1000 shots since then no problem, so im going to try propane on it just to see, if it breaks, my loss, but i really dont like the performance of duster >.<

the denture acrylic is a super strong acrylic that adheres to plastics insanely well, and it has micro fibers inside that give it tensile strength as well, so it is ideally suited to repairing broken plastic slides, so run ur M9 on propane crunch, if it breaks it can be fixed xD

Well, I'd still rather not. I did buy the gun as a collection piece, and it's a beauty. Since it's a rare WA model (rare as in few were made with white grips, and only a few of those made it out of Japan, or so I've read). I would rather not temp fate, break it and devalue it. If I could get an Inox metal slide, I'd probably be more inclined to use it.

heh, guess we differ like that, I cant stand to have any gun in my collection un gamed, I'd rather devalue it, because in my mind its worthless if you cant shoot it, so not shooting it is just making it worthless WITHOUT me breaking it xD

You also can't stand NOT putting rubber cement, concrete, jb weld, elastic bands, boogers, duct tape, electrical tape, masking tape, painters tape, white out, Krazy glue, white glue, glue stick, steel epoxy, staples, bondo, or spacco on to any of your guns. Like you said, you'd rather devalue it just to get it working.

Denture acrylic? Where do you find this stuff? Ever try Polygrip? Those commercials make it look great!
