Fore grip for a scar
I would like some advice from the community. I'll be getting a VFC SCAR-H when I get back to Canada, but I'm not sure of which fore grip to get. Which is a better choice? A traditional vertical grip or the Angled fore grip by magpul? Anyone know which is more comfortable in the long run? Thanks in advance.

Personaly I like traditional vert grips better (but used the 'magpul way'). I used to think that I'd love an AFG till loathing game to one of my games and I held his rifle. I don't care for them.
My advice, ask around at a game to try out other peoples rifles with different grips. |

I thought I'd love a Magpul AFG on my SCAR, but, instead, hated it. I use a standard grip, but also hold my rifle the "Magpul way". As others have said, YMMV.

They're very different grips meant to be used in different ways.
The AFG gives you better control of your weapon and lets you drive it on target faster, but it's a very uncomfortable way to hold your weapon (if used as intended*) with your non-shooting arm fully extended gripping the front of the gun and it's not really how you'd want to hold your weapon for extended periods. A traditional vert grip, usually mounted closer to the center of the weapon rather than near the muzzle, gives you less control (but still more than no vert grip) but is generally much more comfortable and natural, and because your forearm is bent (and potentially resting your elbow against you body/vest) it's a lot less tiring and you can keep your weapon up much longer without killing your arm. It's also possible to perform AFG-style grip using a traditional vert grip. * I say "as intended" since on a short carbine you could mount it much more rearward (or in my case, on an AK-74SU where it takes up the entire rail) where it becomes more comfortable but doesn't work quite as effectively. In the case of the AK it prevents the grip from getting in the way of mag changes and helps preserve a relatively clean profile on a SBR like that.

Yep, just a personal choice. I like the vertical grip. And like Drake said, I like putting it a little farther away from the muzzle and it becomes really natural and comfortable. Got a vertical grip on my VFC SCAR-L.

Can't fix my own guns. Willing to fix yours.

I've personally never liked foregrips, I usually hold it by the mag/magwell

A Grippod might be good. Stabler shooting position if you go prone, and a good vertgirp if not.

I would recommend the 5 position verticle grip. I use one in the 45 degree position back towards the magwell. I think the magpul AFG just takes up way too much real estate on the rail.

Small, takes up very little real estate and functions exactly like a vert grip. Then again. A better option would be buying them all and testing them for yourself. Cheers. |
