How to get out more FPS from a WE Scar
Hi guys, some people may know my style: I don't game, I plink and collect. Chairsofter. I wanted to know, I had a WE M4 and M16A3 before, both were shooting at 560fps with Co2 noozle and propane. How can the WE Scar only shoots around 450fps? Is there anyway to boost it up, except from puting an NPAS open to max with a longuer inner barrel? Thank you

If you can mod the guide rod tip a bit shorter which opens the floating valve back to the max. That's about it I guess.
More ways is an even longer tightbore, and using CO2. But don't use CO2 or your gun will break. |

Well an RA-Tech NPAS Kit dialed to max will allow it to fire pretty darn hot (500+) on a warm day using Green gas..
That would probably be the only way, Sorry to say. From Factory they are intended to fire at or around the 450 mark. |

Talking about Co2, I had only but bad experience when using them with my WE M4/M16A3 Co2 ready. The blowback was crisper, but on chrono I was falling from 560fps on propane to a max of 440fps. I never gained any fps with Co2.
And why would it break if it's suppose to be Co2 capable? The internal is all metal/steel, I'm pretty sure it can take it? I would love a longuer barrel but I don't know anyone longuer then the 505 Ra-Tec and WE one And I read something pretty weird and sure it is misinformation but TSC claim that their SCAR adjustable rod can go from 200 to 600fps. I know it's bullshit since I never saw anyone with a 600fps SCAR. But still maybe it can go over 500fps? |

Take a close look at the nozzle. The guide rod screws up into the bottom of the brass base of the nozzle. There's a portion that sticks through. The more that part sticks forward, the further up the float valve will be positioned. More forward = less FPS...further back = more FPS.
You can take the nozzle apart and grind down the stub of the guide rod that protrudes through. Leave 2-3 threads or you might end up with the float valve sitting too far back and it might not slip forward properly into the nozzle tip. All the way back is pretty close to 600fps with propane at room temp from a 363mm barrel. |

Your hinge plate will crack and bust into pieces leaving you with a non working SCAR.
Lot's of reviews why not to use co2 on a SCAR even though they are internally built for CO2, the externals aren't. |

The version 3 corrects this, Part 66 is no longer failing as it was reinforced. Also a simple peice of Loopside velcro added to the recoil spring base will do the same thing.

I think I'll try M102404 method. But I always wonder, after grinding threads, won't it be difficult to put the nozzle back on the "new" thread? I'll also try Co2 and see what breaks. But I'm still wondering why there is no gains in fps with Co2, can someone explain this? Let say that propane has a 120psi, a Co2 200psi (no point of saying somewhere between 200 to 800pis because I ain't see an airsoft yet runing a 800psi) with 80psi more, you should have an incredible gain in fsp!?
And what about the claim of 600fps from TSC? So many questions |

You are grinding the end of the threaded guide rod...not the base of the nozzle. The body (shell) of the nozzle screws onto the base, the base screws onto the rod. There should be no issues with screwing the nozzle body back onto the rod.
Use temporary loctite...or it'll unscrew with use. I believe the factory uses red loctite to assemble and you need focused heat from a torch to get it apart. This is a "one-way" mod...once you alter the length of the guide rod and increase FPS, you cannot lower the FPS without making other mods. It is not adjustable either...unless you take the nozzle apart. |

While that is a temporary fix, this does not address long term reliability, and is by no means a guaranteed solution to a cracked hinge plate.

Sorbopads for SCAR hinge plates anyone?
(just an expression, I personally am not making these)

Cool, Thanks! M102404!
By the way, no answers on my Co2 questions? |

M102404, you have my full respect! OF all the mods I did on my SCAR, no one is as impressive as grinding the top of the shaft :| Before, I had difficulties piercing threw the middle bottom of a coke can... now I can make a hole in the side top of it :| :| :|
Impressed! |

Don't see the need for CO2 mags. They're a pain, they're slow to reload. I'm sure they're spiffy though.
You can shoot as hot as you really need to by modding the propane system without incurring more stress to the system. You can keep the system within the original operating parameters (not as much an issue on M4's as it is with SCARS). You can mod the bolt and buffer/spring if you want more "kick". All without CO2. (plus I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to buy different mags that need disposable powelets that I'd have to buy) Tys BTW...I hope you use a real chrony to measure the FPS...pop cans are useless for that |

And everyone is right. Co2 is nice, but propane works and is a better cost option. |
