Adjust sights or hop up or both?
Hey guys was testing my gun and it shoots about an inch or two below where I'm aiming. I can only get about 20 feet back for shooting here. Should I adjust the hop up or the sights to correct this?

You can't effectively sight in your gun at 20ft man, gotta get to somewhere with a further distance.

Hopup doesn't even take effect until about 40 feet.
The trick to quickly sighting in a gun. Set the hop so that the BB travels a straight path, then over hop a LITTLE. so that it curves up and then comes back down. It's a fine line. Then adjust your sights to where the BB is shooting. |

Get out to a game and test it there. You should be adjusting your hop up for the most level path over its entire range. Not at a given distance.

My scar overhops so it'll rise about 1-2 feet at maybe 20 feet. I need to change the bucking so.. anyways.. I was missing a dude at that distance.. and I was positive I got him out, but I guess all my bb's just rolled over his head and hit the tree over him.

I was trying to compensate by shooting lower, but he had a huge fat tree and I had the hill line, so I had to pop up shoot maybe 5 rounds and drop, and when you try to shoot lower over a hill, you leave yourself more exposed. So maybe that's why I didn't hit him. Oh and since he was with his dad and his sister... all behind that huge tree, I felt that I should just fall back after a few close calls. Then I ended up rushing center with 4 guys shooting at me yelling that my multicam would save me.. I ended up getting like half way into their side, maybe 30-40 yards and got behind a tree, but the tree I chose was only like a foot thick, and my leg was sticking out, and they had me in a crossfire.. but anyways.. |

Thanks guys, I wish i could get back 30 to 50 feet, but I live downtown so my options are limited. I just wanted to get my iron sights bang on so I could fix my 552 reticule on my front sight. I guess I'll have to wait until I'm out at the field.

BTW, you should be checking and resetting your hop up before every game since temperature and air conditions will rarely be identical one day to the next. Cooler days will cause you to overhop a bit more, warmer will underhop. Add in windier conditions, over hop........... you get the picture. |
