Russian Camo in Afghanistan

What types of Camouflage were used in Afghanistan? Who used them? and where could I get a russian assault vest ('Lifchik'?) from - preferably in Europe?

Sooo many questions!

Many Thanks

Steven, don't post if you don't know anything. They do not have Lifchik's and never had them for a long time, nor do they have any camouflage used in Afghanistan.

If you want to see what camouflage suits they used in Afghanistan, go to the Uniform thread and look for these three, M88 Afghanka, KLMK and KZS, in that order. The Soviet Union developed hundreds of camouflage variations and numerous were seen and used in Afghanistan, but the three above were among the most used. VDV mainly used Khaki Afghankas in the middle to late stage of the war, so for a uniform, M88 Afghanka is your best bet.

As for Lifchik's, your best bet is e-Bay.

First two are Early 'KLMK' patterned suits, and not necessarily were those used in Afghanistan, they were based off different WW2 patterns (TTsMkk for example).

As for the last one, that is the correct KLMK, looks like Dmitry posted the suits under sniper suits instead of Field clothing which is why I couldn't find them.

As for creating an impression, I would advise you to use an M88 Afghanka and not a KLMK, as KLMK was meant for lightly equipped soldiers, and was primarily designed to effectively combat western night vision. The Afghanka was the main uniform given to VDV soldiers and remained that way until the end of the war.

Hmm. interesting. Looks like i do know stuff after all.

Although, if you dont necessarily want a Lifchick, just a russian assault vest as the OP posted, Soviet-P does have a pretty good variety of russian vests. Worth checking out.

Couldn't you also use the normal Chicom chest rig as well? I THINK you could use a 6B3 armour vest too, though maybe it wasn't as common.

Not 100% really sure if they wore those, just going from what I've seen in pictures. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

I have found some pics of a sort of overall thing (tan w/ two thigh pockets) labeled by the seller 'spetsnaz' (after all what isn't - sigh). Were these used in Afghanistan by the VDV and if so when?

I have looked into ChiCom but the only one I have found in the EU is one which seems to have 6 mag pouches and I have been told that it is the one with 3 that is 'useful'.

Did the camouflage in question come only in single piece suits or did the use the 2 part KZS camo?

Thanks,

As comrade Conscript stated there were many things used by the Soviet Army. Without searching, I think you are referring to airborne coveralls, these were rarely used in comparison to other suits.

Do you really care about the Soviet - Afghan war or do you just want to get some sort of Russian loadout? If it's anything, you should really look into War of Chechnya, these uniforms are both more fun and more accessible.

The two part KZS suit was frequently used. However, it was designed to be a one time use suit and as a result, never had the highest quality.

I am afraid that I am interested in the Soviet-Afghan War specifically!

Where might I be able to find an actual Lifchik without buying from the russian fed./Ukraine?

Was the ChiCom actually issued or was it captured by soldiers and then used?

Thanks

The Chicoms were used by the Mujahideen and were considered a trophy when Soviet troops took them.

I should tell you this now, the common Lifchik was never used in Afghanistan. It was produced in the later years of the war but didn't see use until the First Chechen War.

If you don't know anything, don't post.

He is looking at the Soviet - Afghan war, not just googling some "Russian Camo" and buying it for no reason.
