Looking for form T-whatev
|
One, people have looked into manufacturing mech boxes... not cheap.
Two, as greylocks won't stop posting about - legalities. Make a gun, go to jail. Three, making the shell of the gun won't be cheap either... |

Shel isn't hard, not when your improvising. We're not doing a realisticly-cast plastic shell, we're just gonna assemble the barel and other components, cut a stock/foregrip out of wood, and securing the barrel in a length of plastic tubing. Simple, clean... maybe not stury. We'll see how it works. We don't need it to be fancy, we need it to work. We'll work on fancy later.
EDIT Remember when I said think of an M14 look? when you have access to cheap lumber and carpentry tools it becomes very easy to make a gun with real wood in it. We'll need very little in the area of plastic components. The Mech box is the hard part, and I'm sure we can improve. I'm good at that. |

I'm not sure you entirely understand the real appeal of airsoft... It sounds like what you're trying to do is much more suited to the paintball world and mindset.

So you got the illegal part? Good. Now do what you want since you know what that means for you.
Who would know... precious. I'll let someone else tell you about it. |

I got the law part, but one important thing: the prototype isn't a replica... and the cops don't have to know about it... and trust me im very, very good at hiding things from authority (I was a in a Catholic High-School, yu have to learn to hide things if you want to do anything fun there )

I don't know about everyone here, but Airsoft has been around in North America for what? A decade or two at most? I'm sure by now people have tried to manufacture cheap reliable Airsoft guns here. The only place you'll see them is in the States, those crappy LPEGs. Do you see any here? No? Chances of a manufacturer here in Canada will not likely happen IMOP. Honestly, the people who are serious about Airsoft simply don't mind shelling out hundreds even thousands of dollars for their guns. And In a way this weeds out kids who are just going to shoot somebody on the street or what not! We're not the States here (Thank Goodness, we don't need red tips either) so like come on! Canada is run on a laws that Greylocks has been repeating himself non-stop "make a gun, go to jail" So even if it WAS for personal use you're walking into deep water. All in all, it is your decision whether or not to carry out your home project for now.
EDIT** - You're good at hiding things huh? Does "concelable weapon" ring a bell? |

Push comes to shove I can destroy the prototype, besides I don't know about Toronto, but kingston has worse problems than airsoft guns, and alot of open space to test them in.
Maybe I am walking in deep water, belive me it wouldn't be the first time. Furthermore, there are licences, etc. that let you build weapons and replica weapons. As for the concealed weapons thing: Concealed weapon does not tend to mean it's locked safley away in the corner of a shed. Nor does it mean that the cops are gonna go through all the trouble of searching the premises for airsoft guns, especially when theres an army surplus in town that sells the damn things. *EDIT* let me put it this way: this would not be the first time I've bent (key word bent not broken) the rules to stretch my creative streak and test my limits. I don't even know what the law says about non-replica Airsoft guns. by the time I'm done making a working prototype, I intend it won't look like a real gun. I won't start thinking about turiningit into a replica AEG until I have a licence to. |

Key word: Bent, not broken the rules. If there is an out-right law agains creating non-replica airsoft guns, then tell it to me. I'll stop. I was under the impression this is a grey area.

All in all it's your decision, even if it doesn't look alike if it can discharge a projectile at a reasonable force that can cause harm you'll be looking for trouble.
You like to bend the rules that's fine as nobody here on ASC is responsible for your actions. Until than, if your going to pull through with your project get cracking. If it's a success good job. Otherwise this thread should be locked and trashed. If not sticky it so any other airsoft-building-hopefuls can take a look so we can avoid this. |
