319 isn't too bad if that's what you get it for, but nobody is going to know how to properly shim a gun as a first gun buy. Then again, it could be one of those g&p unicorns that never blows up the gears for 20k rounds, but chances are it shreds an axle :P

True,

Throwing another choice into the mix:

King Arms M4a1 at $259.95 Full metal & a free smart charger. Bargain.

*I have no experience with king arms

Between family and friends we have bought 6 King Arms metal M4s, 4 are still going strong, 2 blew up the first game ... kind of a poor ratio really although thats a very small sample

One the piston. the other was returned to the store so I don't know for sure, sounded like stripped gears or pinion gear issue

Have 2 VFC AEGs and 1 VFC GBBR, both aegs perform great. Just ironed out the issues with the gbbr, the r-hop makes this thing go so far.

Is marui even worth buying?
I understand they finally have metal guns now with their new product line, but is it any good?
What's the fps on their export guns?
And how's the build quality of the mechbox now?

It used to be you'd buy a marui to have a problem free stock gun for 5 years, problem these days is it's far to expensive to buy an all plastic gun that requires a really steep fee to get it past 350fps

Their metal bodies are good. Fit and finish is excellent, as you'd expect from Marui. Not as tight fitting as the old school Systema bodies, but they definitely fit way better than any Classic Army, G&P, King Arms, VFC, etc aftermarket body that I've ever used.

There is no "export model" of any Marui product. At least not from the factory.

The build quality of the mechbox is still superior for an out-of-the-box product, and still industry leading, in my opinion. The new hard recoil engine mechboxes are completely different than the old v2, so you could say that changes have been made in leaps and bounds.

Upgrading to higher velocity is a bit more of a challenge, due to the added complexity of the recoil/blowback system. It also does not take standard AEG parts, but there are plenty available from a number of Japanese aftermarket companies. I've upgraded a few to 350-400fps.

But they do still come at 280fps from Japan?
The mechboxes were certainly well made in the sense that the tolerances were excellent, unfortunately marui had a reputation of making the weakest shells on the market since they were only ever designed to run 300fps. Was wondering if THAT had changed lol

Yep, they're still 280fps from Japan.

I wouldn't say they had the weakest shells on the market... there are worse, but you're right, they're not the strongest from factory, either. For what it's worth, I've not had any of the upgraded next gen aeg's come back to me with breakage yet. I haven't looked inside one in a year, so I can't recall what the engineering features were - however, the first thing I did look at was the cylinder window, which was where breakages occurred in the original v2, and I was happy to see that they'd re-engineered that part to take much more force.

I still think it was an engineering issue, more than it was a material issue, as plenty of their other gearboxes can handle much more stress just fine. v4, v6, I've taken up to 600fps and 520fps respectively.

v7, I've heard of breakage, but have not seen it myself, yet.

I've personally seen two TM V7 gearboxes that were cracked, but not where you'd expect. Both were cracked on the left side, about halfway down the cylinder area but just on the top. Neither appeared to affect the guns performance at the time. Neither client chose to replace the shell. I don't know what ever happened to them after they left my shop.
