Whats the crap around the mount pin. The pictures not vary good, it looks like rust. On all other M4s I know they just use a pin to hold the sling mount to the front sight. You need to just knock it out. Same with the two pins that hold the front sight to the barrel. Use the right sized nail or small screw driver or something with a hammer. Dont need to bang them out hard. Just light taps should push the pins out.

Well, it looks like the metal was threaded through and bent down on all sides.

Yes that IS rust, it came with the rifle.

And why do you want to take that gun apart? Is it broken?

Not telling you this to piss you off, but airsoft guns are better left alone unless there's something broken, or you've seen someone do it in person.
I understand most airsoft guns usually only need to be modified if something is disfunctional. I'm actually trying to put a scope on it and the front sight gets in the way.

You need the front sight to hold your handguards on.

How could I put a scope on without interference then?

Or if you're using a RDS with an intergraded mount, you'll need one of these.

Is there any harm in removing the loop ring with a dremel and then re-attaching the ring with a wingnut?

Wing nut??? What are you nuts?....lol

Find a spring pin the same diameter, and use that.

well if you plan on only using the optics, just use a dremel to cut of the part of the sight thats in the way, I bought a cut off sight but you would still need to remove the sight you have on there so that wont work for you, but alot of people just cut their sights off.
