Again don't believe on what you read on internet a WE open bolt system by the time you add up all the upgrades and mags and the rest of bells and whistles can easily top the $1K mark, as a gaming platform WE open bolt are the best bang for the buck in fact I would stake my ridiculous Classic airsoft collection that they are by far a better platform when you compare dollar for dollar performance with the WA based Inokatsu or G&P/WA GBBR. They are so stupid simple that you have to be an absolute donkey to fuck shit up.

As a member of the Canadian Forces (and a WE user) I say go for the WE open bolt M4 because mainly they're cheaper than most GBBRs and can pretty reliable once upgraded. Also the mags are cheaper and easy to fix once it leaks. If you have any problems with it, there's a huge thread here about the WE GBBRs that can answer all your questions.

I'm interested in the KWA/KSC as well...
If you can live with the looks and the limited options of the KJW...there's lots of great reports of it's out of the box reliability. The WE's have gone through A LOT of versions/iterations. It has not helped that there's been a LOT of "upgrades" that did not quite fit or do what they were intended on doing. It also did not help that the model most attractive to the general user base (the M4) went through a major functional change (closed to open bolt). Their current M4 mags suck...the back plate sealing issue, fill valve issues. A promising alternative is due...and the fixes to the mags are cheap and relatively easy to do. The fixes also seem by and large permanent....and that's nice. The open bolt version of the M4 is pretty good. Hopup is better, shot-to-shot performance is good...etc... Sure, things will break...but all airsoft stuff does. (even a $$$$ inokatsu M60 will break if you smash/fall on it hard enough ) One really really attractive part about the WE M-series is that the stock WE parts are dirt cheap and readily available. The "upgrade" parts are readily available and relatively ok in price. Downside...gun + mags and you're looking at $700-1000. Price the same out on a WA/G&P/etc...and you're way beyond that. Budget $1000 to get up and running...then add "necessary" accessories like a different rail, gucchi gadgets, etc... |

Thanks for all the replies everyone. WE appears to be taking the lead here.
Does anybody know any decent suppliers for WE M4s besides torontoairsoft? They've been out of stock for a week and are not replying to my ETA e-mails. |

Was there not a WETTI M4 FAQ thread too? I see the mag sealing and the cleaning ones but I though there was one more general thread like for the KJW and WA platforms.
I've gamed mine a few times now and its' getting to be time to start changing parts. When I look online it seems that there are tons of parts like pistol grips and receiver plates specific to that platform but not a lot noted for WE. If I wanted a receiver plate and a TD grip for example what would I pick. I know AEG ones aren't going to fit. On a side note re the KWA. They're starting to show up now online with folks talking about them. Nice kick, not as nice looks, loose fit between upper and lower and seem to run a lot like the MP7 as for how much lube to pour on.

Danke, the WE M4 accepts RS parts I have a RS pistol grip on mine now. I originally used a WA spec pistol grip the only thing I had to do was drill the small hole for the selector switch retention spring, I also used a WA spec sling plate which just required a small amount of sanding around the lug that goes into the reciever. If you look around on Ebay you can find some of the RS parts for cheaper then the airsoft parts.

Thanks, I've been leaning that way. I just hate buying stuff and finding out it's a no go.
I'm the WE early adopter out here. The proximity to Calgary has the other 2 gas gun guys with KJWs.

I think this was the thread you were looking for, WETTI/AWSS - M4/SCAR/HK416 - Technical Summary Thread: Upgrades & Modifications. Also there is at least a few guys that have done RS builds but for some reason the ASC search function is acting up on mine.
