Required Reading for Canadian Mil-Sim

It dawns on me that while most guys and girls doing mil-sim are impressively familiar with kit and guns, another dimension of soldiering may be neglected. It's military professionalism, specifically the specialized body of knowledge in the profession of arms. Now as far as tactics, I'm not going to say steal some manuals from LFDTS/DAT or AKO in the States (though some obsolete American manuals have been posted). But I really think every Canadian mil-sim boy and girl should familiarize themselves with at least some joint doctrine, especially that pertaining to the profession of arms.
The first one that comes to mind is Duty with Honour, available here http://www.cfd-cdf.forces.gc.ca/site....asp?page=3475 (though its in the process of being co-updated along with an Enhanced Leaders Edition)

Chief of Force Dev also has the rest of the Leadership suite (Leading People is especially useful for airsoft), along with CFJP-3 Ops and a whole bunch of operational/strategic level stuff maybe not so much of interest here http://www.cfd-cdf.forces.gc.ca/site....asp?page=3560.

At the very least, its all interesting reading and at most, its valuable to fill out the knowledge gaps in your military simulation.

Cheers,

Scott

I concur.....indeed I'm going to ask the admins, if I can post
a plug for Legion Magazine....its been available to the general public for over 25 years. Its not expensive...indeed as magazines go...it is a bargain at 2.95$ CDN an issue and they could use the circulation.

Tactics

You're right in that people need to learn tactics, map reading etc. In Operation Pine Plains II in New York last weekend our Force Recon Alpha 1-2 squad pulled mortar duty after being trapped on a roof for several hours repelling attacks...

Imagine the realism when Krusty and I had to call in fire missions to the Fire Direction Centre giving grid 8 figure grid references while the squad (Go Force Recon!) was setting up and tearing down the mortar tube, base plate and ammo crates under fire.

So being able to navigate and read topographical maps will go a long way in milsim events.
