do chargers matter?

I bought my first AEG (a jg m4a1) and it came with a battery and a charger. The battery it came with is no good so i bought an extra one. Should i buy a new charger too or does it not really matter what kind of a charger you use? The charger says class 2 power supply. I dont mind waiting hours to charge the battery, so do i need to buy a new charger? Also... it says that the output is 12v DC 300mA. Does that mean that it puts out 300mA per hour, so on a 1200mAh battery it needs to be charged for 4 hours?

Buy one of the smart chargers from Airsoftparts.ca or BBbastard...they're completely and utterly simple (set to 1A for small batteries, 2A for large batteries). Red light means charging, green means all done. No noise, no heat, no issues.

+1 on the smart chargers . What they do is eliminate the "memory effect" of batteries getting constantly charged/discharged. This is because smart chargers do this thing called "battery conditioning" which basically means that it conditions the battery to go to minimum charge then it will charge it to max (so that the calibration doesn't get all screwed up when you only do half a discharge).

So in conclusion get a smart charger from BBbastard it's a good investment (because your batteries will last longer).

You need an intelligent charger that can discharge your batteries. It's the only way to keep your cells happy and performing over the years.

Cheap ass wall charger are no good.

Well, only Ni-Cad were really susceptable to memory effect, and even then, battery technology has improved to the point were memory effect has almost been eliminated. The NPV chargers are great. A more expensive charger that includes a deep cycle feature would be even better.

Wall chargers are generally cheap and not reliable.

just for your information

a "Class 2 POWER SUPPLY"
is NOT a charger.

It is a power supply, which is part of a charging system. You need a charger to be able to detect when your pack is ready.

Also, the smart charger won't remove memory effect at all. It will just delay it a bit.
