Afghan clothing help
I guess this is gear related. If not, feel free to move it mods.
Anyways, I need to find out what kind of clothes village elders would wear in the middle east, more specificly afghanistan. For the next two weeks I'm playing the town leader/elder for my unit. Since I always like looking the part, I thought I'd ask for suggestions here. I've looked online and found what is called a Chapan, but can't find any place to buy one. All the ones on e-bay look way to fancy for what I need. Anyone know anywhere I can get one? Or would my best bet be to try to make one? I would also like to know about any head dresses I could were, but here's the catch. Since it's a live fire range, I need to wear my helmet. So a terban would probably be my only option. Once again, does anyone know how to make a terban? What's the dementions of the cloth? Thanks guys.

+1 for sig approval....as for headgear, try googling Pakol (got mine off ebay), that funny flat top style hat, typically afghan, but that pic summs it up i think (never having been there i wouldn't have a clue other than what i've seen and read)

Other then a big white dress that looks like your grandmothers, an AK-47 or RPG.
Just kidding, I guess you can just google: Taliban and find it.

Finding images is not hard, but finding the clothes is harder. I have, on occasion, seen middle eastern stores that have the proper clothing. Usually in bigger cities where immigration is more prevalent.
I'm sure you could find that stuff in Toronto, or Montreal but it would take some digging. Hope those ideas help. |

Ghillie, there are 2-3 shops I have seen in the Ottawa area that carry middle eastern styles of wardrobe. Most I've seen are bright "celebration" get ups, however there are always darker colours and most of it is rather cheap, least cheaper than I thought it was going to be when I stopped at them.
Sorry that I can not remember the names, or even begin to pronounce half them. There is one down on Bank st. near Lisgar. This shop carries more nik-nacs as well as swords, blades, jewelry and a hole whack of really need interesting stuff there. Its been a while since I've gone in, but anytime I ventured it was always a welcoming environment and the gentlemen is always happy to point you in the right direction of what your looking for when it comes to middle eastern stuff. I believe the store was called "Tigris". There are others though, always catch glimpses of them driving all over Ottawa lately. But then if you look at the surging population of minorities in Ottawa, its not hard to see why so many lil cultural shops are popping up.
