Battery building

I recently bought come NimH C cell batteries from a friend. Also I bought some Deans battery bars, Deans low resistance connectors and some red and black GS Silicone 14g wire. What I am wondering is has anyone found a good website on how to build your own battery packs. I tried and I think I heated up a battery too much. I have a good 100w soildering gun but it doesn't seem to like to take the soilder on the battery. It sticks well to the bars but not the battery ends. I even tried flux but that didn't even work! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to build a 9.6V with these 3500 mah cells. Also how do I keep them straight. Or will I have to make some sort of jig for it?

I just google'd making your own battery packs and found a few sites. One stated you should use between a 40-60W soldering gun.. but what do I know.
