If you aren't wearing proper eye protection, you deserve Corneal erosion in size and shape of an airsoft bullet and total hyphema combined with traumatic cataract, and a dense vitreous hemorrhage.

Seriously, stupid kids piss me off.

I would say that anyone DESERVES this is a little harsh, but, I agree they were stupid.

100m/s=328fps
200m/s=656fps

I can see the damage happening at the higher end, but seriously, in Ontario & Quebec, you won't see that velocity on a field....or had better not anyhow.

The 100 m/s and 200 m/s on that page was when they were talking about BB guns, not airsoft guns.

Mean ± SD age was 13.9±2.3 years (range, 11-17 years). All patients were male and only 1 eye was affected. In 2 cases, bullets ricocheted from a wall into the eye; in the other 7 cases, the eye was hit directly.
Store like wallmart and Canadian pif paf policy of 18+ is really working! It's just the very little tip of a huge, gargantuesque iceberg.

read the whole thing

"Executive Summary" ( lazy bastard version )

The article makes several points.

1. the injuries recorded were all young males
2. the number of reported injuries from airsoft guns is increasing
3. all reported injuries resulted in no penetration of the eye (some leaking of fluid though
4. all victims recovered 7 out of 8 returned to 20/20 vision one to 20/25

result: Although Injuries due to airsoft pellets are much less severe than "traditional pellets" and much less likely to result in permanent injury it is still not something that you want to have happen. The proliferation of cheap easily attainable airsoft and soft air guns within the young male population will likely result in an increase of this type of injury.

Also, the guns used were only 196 - 246 feet per second. Real airsoft guns shoot a lot faster than that, and impart a lot more than the 0.3J the guns used were doing.

Fixed.

A couple games ago a BB bounced off my googles from a M4 chronoed at 365 fps, scared the hell outta me. People who dont wear eye protection dont deserve that, but they should be taken out back and beaten till they know to wear them.
