If you really want to get into this sport, help preserve it, and only play on private land/spaces (not your backyard), where no one can see you, or it's completely expected (like a paintball course).
i played paint ball in my back yard numerous times and none of my neighbors reported anything

plus i played air soft in my neighborhood once before a bunch of the neighbors looked out the window and realized it was me and friends and went back to not caring
all my neighbors now me and know im a good guy so as long as i dont trash their property or break their windows which i don't plan on doing im 99% sure well be safe

dude cops have been surprised by 6 year olds. You are 17 holding what looks like a gun and pointing it at some one with looks like the intent to use it. Think it through take the time and I'm sure you will come to understand why allof the above is a bad idea.

When you do get into the sport you and your friends will find lots of people to play with on proper fields. Then you'll really have fun. Read the forums, do your home work and try to understand where we ( the rest of Canada) are coming from.

Cheers

Aww come on you can't do that to the poor boy. That's just setting him up for a flame-fest.

Your neighbours might know you, but visitors to the area don't, neither would the delivery guy, nor that guy/girl just happen to be jogging in the area, and I don't think the cops will know you're a good guy when they just happened to drive by.

And FYI, the guns you get from Wal Mart are far from being airsoft. They are what we call "softair" or "crapsoft" or piece of sh*t, well you get the point.

Playing paintball in the backyard doesn't count for anything. Paintballs don't have the silhouette of a real gun. Airsoft (clear or not) does have that silhouette.

Like phenom said, all it takes is one antsy, paranoid, or just even regular visitor to not understand, call the cops, and bam. The sport is one step closer to becoming illegal. You may feel the risk is fine for your fun, but think of the bigger picture here. You say you want to get into the bigger guns, and go to some games and such, keep in mind what you do now, may have an effect of if the sport is around when you get the money to buy a gun. (One slanted newspapers about something people don't understand, and we'd have A LOT of people who want airsoft illegal, it's happened before, and it'll happen again.)

You BADLY need to read the FAQ, and about the legalities surrounding this sport.

Or you can do two really simple things; wait until you are 18, and never, ever, play anywhere that is not setup with the right permits to allow this.

It requires common-sense, and that's not for sale.

I admit I asked this on purpose, for this very reason. I'm from Victoria and I know there's no fields to play at in town. I know of at least one group of young kids who play in a church and the attached parkade, with decent pistols and shop glasses. Not a great way to do it, and I tried to deter them in the past, but it's no use.
Imperium, right now cndzn is your best friend when it comes to airsoft. He's a very standup guy, and when you do turn 18 he can verify you on these boards, opening up a ton of new and used airsoft sales to you (assuming you get bitten by the airsoft bug and want to continue). Show up to a game, see what it's all about, ask questions, take pics, etc. Whatever you do, don't play in a public place like your yard or an empty lot. The Victoria police are *very* unfriendly towards airsoft, and neither are the tree huggers and conservative older folks that fill the city.
You may want to rethink what it is you want to do.
