IIRC, 12s didn't work that great in my EBB, the fixed hopup caused them to go high dramatically.

sorry, had to clarify that my tm 18c is an aep, not ebb. Will it still make much of a difference?

Are there any really cheap and readily available .12gs that are safe to use in higher quality guns? I read about mixing different weights, from .12g to .28g in Maruzen shotshells in order to get a better, more 'shotgun-y' spread.
Also, .12gs would probably be nice for CQB, lessening impact and to-target time (and where long range consistency isn't really an issue).

I had a bunch of the cheap crossman .12s because i bought a mid line gun then it broke so i had the leftovers. I tested gun out with .25;s elite and it alot more consistant but to just go out with friends i use some of each because they all got cheap clear springers. Canadian tire. I suggest just use cheap ones to shoot around for fun. Use actual ammo for skirmishes. That way you won;t jam gun up. From my experience (which isn;t much to date) The g3 Sg1 is very rugged because i have shot about 5000 plus crossman .12 without a single jam and I have not even cleaned my gun yet. It is no like you are wrecking it if you watch the bbs a bit and if you feel or see a horrible one pluck it out and keep going. If it doesn;t wreck gu and you are just plicking I advise .12 big jugs of crossman little jugs have crappy bbs.

The players I know told me they used the .12g for indoor shoots because these games had very limited ranges, so accuracy at long range did not matter... Also, the BB were less painfull because of their low mass and last but not least, they were easier to vacuum after a game! All good points... I fired at least a thousand .12 bbs (free BB's that came from a friend who works at a movie gun-rental company) in both my TM M16A2 and TM M4 without a single problem... Accuracy is atrocious at longer range as the BBs start flying in all directions!

You're better off shooting 20s, not 12s. TM AEPs have a great hopup that give them great range for their relatively low fps. Shooting 0.12s would negate that advantage for an insignificant gain in fps for only the first 30' or so.

Problem with using 0.12g BBs at all no matter the range, is that while they will hurt less onthe guys you shoot, they will also have less impact, making felt hits much less. Don't know what kind of gear a lot of you guys wear or have seen worn in CQB, but what I've seen are a lot of heavily geared up (CIRAS, WEESATCH, etc.) guys that would barely even feel a 0.20g BB hit them, unless on exposed skin or on a part of their body that only has clothing over it. Heavier ammo has it's advantages and it's drawbacks.
The lightest ammo (0.12g) has more disadvantages than advantages of any kind unless shot within 20ft (even indoors, BB stability drops off at a very rapid rate based upon distance the lighter the ammo choice goes.......... had one day shooting at a team mate during pistol training, my G19 with 0.25g BBs, at about 50ft it took half a mag shot at him (he experienced the same) to get BB close to him because they veered off........... since then I've upgrade and tuned my G19, and can get hits out to 130ft with 0.43g). Add in the crappy ammo made & sold out there in the 0.12g flavour................. Your guns internals become at risk. If I MUST use lighter than 0.25g in a CQB environment, I'll use 0.20g only, and my red 0.12g as "low mag capacity indicators" same as I always do anyways. Not sure the brand (got them from Walmart, has Eagle in it or something, will check later ) but I only use the red 0.12g BBs in my MP5s as I said earlier, first 12-20rds in the mag, filled with quality 0.25g after that. Point being, let's you know the mag is almost empty, both by the sight of red BBs overhopping and the sound (oddly, the sound of 0.12g BBs is of a bit higher pitch).
Damage my gun? Not as bad as dry firing a version 2 mechbox when mag is empty. Damage my hop up rubber? Sure, could happen, but I replace my hop up rubber (Guarder 50% clear) once or twice per year because I enjoy having it fresh (I'm a sniper and am more in tune with airsoft ballistics than most other snipers, by experience and my work-acquired knowledge of aerodynamics) so I can be confident in consistancy and performance. Add in I'm a "Gun Doctor" I see no reason whatsoever not to use them for the application I do. As far as I can tell, I'm one of the very few people around that use 0.12g in this role, I know of no one else who does (hey, I originally thought of it, passed the info around; same as using 0.30g BBs and up to 0.43g BBs to best effect in GBBs........... 130ft kills with 0.43g BBs from a G19 anyone? ). |
