Thanks for all the good tips gents. A couple more months on this diet and I'm going to dive on in and be ready for the spring season.
I do have one more question. Is there a protocol amongst reenactors about rank. I am a little long in tooth and was thinking of doing an officer impression, perhaps just as an excuse to carry a Luger as a sidearm. Would people take offense at this, or is there any protocol about rank for uniforms? I'd rather not ruffle any feathers. LD

I'd happen to agree with Leecas. Bein' a reenactor as well as a Airsoft player I beleive that rank should be built upon experience therefore I accept bein' only a lowly private.
If you do start your own group, might I suggest startin' with a small rank an' then movin' your way up as more members join. A officer would not have the priviledge of leadin' a squad, an' would most likely be sent to the rear when most of his unit was destroyed.

Rank insignia would be dependent on what you intended to use it for. If it's just for looks, no problem do what you want. If it's part of a team that uses ranks you will be assigned a rank most likely.
Me, my uniform is based on my experience in the Reserves. I was a Corporal...hence the insignia, I killed a tank up close during an excersise...so I get a kill badge. That sorrta a thing, it's a game and if the intent is fun then it's all good. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to be open minded. As a German themed uniform you have to expect there will be some uneasy looks from time to time. Just be prepared to have the answers...could make for some good conversatons. Hope that ehlps JW |
