Normal gear wear after approx 5000 rds.

just wondering if anyone knows what proper or normal wear would be in a V2 mechbox (pdi 140% and metal bushings, rest is stock) after about 5000 bbs.

should the grease still be white (it is white Li grease) or is it normal to be silver in color from gear wear?

also, the gears are worn with a slight rounding on the tips of the teeth

I'm assuming the gears are stock then? If so, yes, the gears should be showing wear. A 140% spring is not really recommended for stock gears. And yes, the discoloration of the grease is normal.

thanks for your help. after a good cleaning the wear appears to be very minimal and at what i would assume to be typical places. i was just concerned about the metal in the grease but thats understandible as the gears arnt ment to take that much abuse. thanks again.

Even after a coupel huindred rounds the grease will be dark gray. Nothing wrong there. And stock gears have outlasted aftermarket ones from all the mechboxes I've worked on (out of a few dozen, had to replace a few Systema, G&P or other gears, but have yet to find a set of stock TM gears wear at all. Another coolness factor is that I've replaced quite a few aftermarket pistons, but only ONE stock TM piston that had it's ass ripped off......... my MP5, the night before a big game. Luckily I had a spare and time!) But that's just my experience, other's mileage will vary.

Check to see if your gears are on fire. If not then they should be ok.

I have stripped one stock piston running a pdi 140% with systema torque up gears. This was after I unloaded 8 locaps into a pizza box as fast as I could.

I have found the pinion gear to wear the most on any gun I have worked on.
