Review Request : Star m249

I would really appreciate it and im sure so would others if a review of this greatly anticipated gun were up from asc users, I think a select few have gotten theirs it be great to hear from you guys.

Ive already seen the reviews from other sites airsoftGI, Arnies, etc. etc. but I don't think there's one from asc (unless i missed it).

Thanks.

Having seen Groombugs STAR M249 next to my CA M249 this weekend, I was impressed with the finish. From arms length, the two are more or less indistinguishable until you pick them up. Its a great looking gun, thats for sure.

I kno it seems silly but for some odd reason I find more comfort on asc reviews they seem more local or something.. I have already seen prob all the reviews from other websites.

Hey groombug, did all the plastic parts (example: the trigger) make it look cheap or fragile? not that im one of those fmu craze ppl, but compared to say a stock tm how does it stand up come quality? also I'm assuming Ricoius saw this at a game. so how does it play?

thanks a lot.

I just got mine Monday. MkII. Fit and finish, is what I expected. Looks great, seems very solid. However I had a problem with getting it shooting. Comes with a mini plug, no biggie, throw a mini in for now and pull the trigger, nothing. Screwed with the box mag connection, and got the auto winder to work. But the mechbox would just click. The auto winder was solved by pushing some of the spring/wire protector back into the box mag, and it pulled the plug down to where it was sitting level, not being pushed up.

Onto to the gun. After basically taking everything apart, finding the mechbox shot fine outside of the gun, I traced it it back to the box mag being wired totally ass backwards. My mechbox was hitting the antireverse latch. I just swapped around the metal plugs in the box mag connector, and away she went. Havent had a chance to put bbs through it yet, cant wait to though. Absolutely pleased with it so far.

Someone at our recent game brought one out, i thought it was very sweet it seemed to fire well from what i saw. Although i never got a huge chance to personally inspect it. I believe its worth the money as compared to the other LMG's but yeah as above said that mini plug stuff is wierd. I also prefer the look of the mkII or whatever to the para.

I had no problems with my wiring or feeding. The box mag->proprietary electrical switch interface needed a little jiggling (i.e. first time it didn't fire, removed, reinserted, it fired).

ROF was good despite the battery dying out in mid-game (I used a below-spec battery because my designated battery hadn't arrived yet). Feeds like a dream.

All your questions can be answered on Arny's. There's a 54-page thread there.

I'm not a big fan of the connection method between the box mag and gun itself as of yet. I may change it over to some other standard conection style, but we'll see how it goes first.

As far as looks and feel go. Yeah its plasticy, and yeah, not everything moves and clicks and whatever. But functionally, and even cosmetically, it will fill a SAW gunner role quite well.
