Speaking of franchises and retail I would get the odd person in trying to haggle. I would bump the price higher at that point and the haggler would be like "WTF you just said x now you say y!" to which I would tell them x was the you buy now no hassles price, y was the you want to haggle and waste my time price. It was effective. |

When I worked in a computer store I had a business call up. He asked for a price on several items and I gave him a price. He asked if I could do better, I said yes, maybe a bit so I gave him $250 off his order (about 10%). This was all used stuff so I had a lot of room to move and I expected him to either add something else or see if he can get a better price... instead he got pissed off, yelled at me over the phone and hung up...

All I'm saying is that if I'm giving you an already good price, and you know it, don't haggle with me. That is greedy and it's wasting my time. If I wanted to work out a price I'd say OBO. Otherwise, take that whole act back to the abu-dabi street market.

So, four pages can be summed up by saying:
Don't like the price, make an offer. If the offer is refused don't buy it. If it's cheaper new than used, buy it new. If you don't want the risk of used for a small price savings, buy it new. If you don't trust the seller, buy it elsewhere. It's called economics and price-capping is plain rediculous. The only comparison between cars, guitars, and airsoft is that they're all subject to economics. Used car prices are representative of the value buyers place in them. There's a reason 5-year old Cavaliers go for $5,000 and 10-year-old Preludes go for $7,000; buyers place more value in that Prelude than the Cavalier, even though both were similarly priced brand new. |

Can this stop now? The nutshell; if you dont like a price, dont buy it. If you have to ask why, educate yourself (aka do some research).
If you dont understand basic economics, go back to school. |

Why? - there is nothing wrong with this thread. People are talking about how things are sold - haggling etc... no need to read Grey! Quote:
