I dunno anything about real steel p90's but I have that DTP rail you're refering to on my tm p90, just took a pic today with my new laser
now, I have a GB tech metal receiver as well. when installing the dtp rail i found it was extremely tight. i had to sort of tap it in with a hammer and cloth. I'm not sure how different the gbtech is from the real steel one, but you can be sure it'll be a tight fit. the rail DOES come with screws. it doesn't use the original p90 ones due to the fact that the metal is pretty thick and the screws need to be longer. they fit perfectly however after some hammer convincing and its solid as a rock. Extremely happy with the rail/gbtech receiver combo, but one thing to note is the rail paint job seems to be a tad shoddy. dont get me wrong, it looks fine, but the paint coating seems to be rather thick about .65mm which makes everything tight and sometimes hard to fit, and it 'chips' rather easily. A few pieces of paint chipped off when taking my aimpoint on and off. Also, the arms mount for the laser was very tight, I dont think i'll be able to quick release it anytime soon. Other than that, its a good product, it works exactly like how it looks like its suppose to. I got mine from UNcompany. Oh, and the side rails are removeable as well. it's held on my 3 allen screws so you can take either side off/on if you need. g'luck with your p90.

Valcrow: Wow, the receiver on your P90 looks better than the real thing. Is the DTP rail aluminum or steel? My real AR-15 receiver loses the black finish sometimes, it's not a big deal. I view my guns as tools and they are knicks/scratches. My RPK ejects 7.62x39 shells with so much force that it made a small gouge in my AR-15 scope mount.
I'm anxious to try out the DTP. I just got word that a few machinists are going to start making tri-rails for the PS90/P90 but around $200 USD. Tight is good IMHO, because you can always fit it together. Again, thanks for the pics! If you want to see pics of my PS90, you can check out the Wikipedia Entry for FN P90: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_P90 I took all of the pics except for the P90 general pic and P90 TR pic (those were from FN). |

Thanks for the compliments, I think this was your receiver at one point harleyb But the receiver is pretty heavy duty the thing is like super solid, doesn't bend for anything which worries my plastic body.
Anyway the DTP is casted Aluminum (I think) but the thing is like half a cm thick (er.. 1/4" or so?) so it's pretty solid even if the material isn't some steel alloy. There's also a little FN herstal engraved logo on the dtp rail near the back which is kinda neat. Im not a trades buff so i dunno if thats appropriate or not. Also the rail renders your ironsights useless unless you decide to take off a side rail which is not too big of a sacrifice. Oh and the tightness bit -its tight to the point where it starts stripping the paint on the side of the dtp rail while trying to get it into the receiver. I dunno if that's just the GB tech receiver's fault or the paint coating on the dtp, but you might have to do a little sanding if you ever plan on taking it out. Here's a few more pics I found in my photobucket. this one shows just the dtp rail without trinkets http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82...w/DSCF0566.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/valcrow/p90_02.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y82/valcrow/p90_03.jpg Im not big on the OD bodys or even the bodys that the TM p90 tr comes with some off grey colour. But the pics are pretty cool. neat to see some real p90 pics and inards. Is the longer extended barrel removable?

The longer barrel was developed to meet US laws. If you use the real P90 barrel (10" or so), it requires approval by the ATF and most states do not allow SBRs (Short Barreled Rifles). So in order to maximize compatibility, FN made them with 16.1" barrels. In Michigan, my PS90 is considered a pistol due to its overall length (26.3") due to some funky laws.
The PS90 receiver appears to be cast aluminum with a cheap paint. After loading/unloading the magazine a few times, the paint was coming off the receiver. It sounds like the DTP rail is a perfect match: both are cast alum and both are painted. The P90 and PS90 share the same parts except: barrel (length and flash suppressor) trigger and hammer group (P90 is Auto / Single / Safe, PS90 is Single / Safe) They both use the same receivers, except the PS90 is Olive Drab. It can be dyed black or duracoated black though. |

How hard is it to get ammo for it? I only ask since there are only two guns that I know of use that caliber.

You probably have more toes and fingers than stores that are stocking 5.7x28. I know of 3-4 vendors that actively have it in stock, at around 44 cents (USD) per cartridge and that's if you buy it in cases of 500rd.
BTW After I showed a few ppl the innards of the P90, they commented that it is a slightly modified mini-Steyr AUG. The way the P90 breaks down and has that special hammer group resembles that of the AUG. The AUG was out way before the P90 was in development, so methinks somewhere along the line, FN took some liberties with the design. |

Well, the ammo is pretty much illegal here.
http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/SOR-98-462/82866.html PART 5 PROHIBITED AMMUNITION Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 10 1. Any cartridge that is capable of being discharged from a commonly available semi-automatic handgun or revolver and that is manufactured or assembled with a projectile that is designed, manufactured or altered so as to be capable of penetrating body armour, including KTW, THV and 5.7 x 28 mm P-90 cartridges. |

wow... that's ridiculous.
That means AR-15 pistols are illegal, as it is a semi-automatic "handgun" with armor piercing cartridges (any rifle round is capable of penetrating Level II body armor). That also covers the .308 pistols and any other pistols capable of firing rifle rounds. The politicians tried to do that here in the US but got shot down, basically they tried to define "armor piercing" as being capable of penetrating body armor. The formal definition is a cartridge that has a bullet (tungsten carbine, steel core, etc...) designed to penetrate body armor, not just any bullet. SS190 is AP and therefore illegal to own in the US, but SS195 is legal. |

You should read some of the Canadian Gun laws. It will have your head turned sideways and you saying, 'wtf?'

Valcrow: Do you have any photos of your original red dot sight, specifically the part that fits into the front part of the receiver? Is there a groove to fit the extrusion on the receiver? Do you have any pics of the receiver in that area as well (without anything installed over it)?
Thanks! |
