The only difference is there's a protective shroud around the Eotech and there isn't one on the Holosite. Other then that they're the same. Actually, some of the older Eotechs didn't have the shroud and in that case the only difference is trademarks.

I heard that Bushnell simply licenses the technology from EOTECH.

From what i remember, EOtech originally developed this technology, but because which i think was they were new and not much of a name and budget, they licensed it to Bushnell to make this for them. After however, they were able to make their own manufacturing company to make their own version of this, they didnt really need Bushnell.
Though the exact details i dont recall, but it was probably because the contract with Bushnell didnt expire, EOtech basically allowed Bushnell to keep making it their version of the holosight, but to only to the sports shooting market, while EOtech themselves manufactured theirs towards LEO/Military only. And they lived happily ever after. The end. |

The Bushnells are a new design for 2005/6. The ones that look like EOtechs are no longer made by bushnell, If you want one I'd get it soon before they are all gone.

Scatter-Shot is right. Also, like any technology, there are always advancements. With this unit, it just means it gets smaller. I personally liked the look of the hooded Eotech version for AA batteries. You can get those from Ebay for about $300 US (the model 512). I recommend this model for two reasons - the metal hood is useful for deflecting BB's and ASC user 'Bruce' makes a polycarbonate shield that slides perfectly under the hood to protect the front of the lens from direct hits. He makes one for the bushnell too, but the Eotech solution is more graceful.
Also, not to be a nard, but his has already been discussed in the accessories section.
