G&G rev 1 upgrade to rev 2 - same sh*t?

Considering settling on a G&G GR16-R4 vs a Systema version 3 for financial and service reasons... my question is - Are version 1 G&G GR16's, upgraded with the new mechbox, the equivalents of a version 2 shipped from the factory? Also, if anyone has any comments on how well the version 2's are holding up, that'd be nice too. Thanks.

they suck. that's why g&g found the only solution to their public relations nightmare was to ship out new 3rd version (not to be confused with version 3) gearboxes to customers rather than new parts. think about it.

hmm. I know you speak from experience in the service side of things Mac. Have you dealt with these new mechboxes they are sending out? Or if these fully convert the current stock over to what the newest ones coming from the factory are when they are installed?

I'm not sold on the G&G, buts its the closest thing to everything I want in one package. In the end, I'm trying to achieve a nice, FMU outdoor SR-16 to go with my short barrel, M90 springed TM M4S-System. Paying a reasonable price would be a bonus. Thoughts?

Systema version 3 ptw - my first choice really - leaves me high and dry in the repairs dept out here and is not easily available at this point. The extra cost of a new set of mags/batts/cylinders jacks things considerably too. I'm just investigating the options, hence the G&G question.

Thanks again.

systemas are a marvel of airsoft engineering and truly the pinnacle of workmanship. if you are willing to float the cash i say go for it, but be prapred to spend $3000+ with mags, batteries, etc. i haven't seen any of the new incarnations of g&g except for the umg and m14 and neither of them gave me much hope that they have improved things. however DEA says he's getting new mechboxes from them to replace problem ones from previous generations. they have great curb appeal, but their engineering and assembly are from the "cut costs whatever it takes" school of thought. systema is from the opposite school that says "whatever it costs let's do it". you're really not comparing similar guns at all. i don't usually flinch at the cost of a gun, but the systema does make me pause for a bit. i do recommend the ics c15 if you want an affordable and reliable alternative to the g&g. you could also try the g&p line, but unfortunately the don't have an sr-16 per se and some mods would be rquired to get it to an sr-16. they do make their spr/a but it's basically an m16a3 with a floating barrel, rail and flip-up sights. the only guy i know who has even brought in the systemas is peter kang at xtreme precision ( sorry to those who don't like him). if you want pm me and i'll give you more info.

I own a rev. 2 G&G gr16 carbine, The only problem that i have had with this gun is a broken tappet plate after about 2000 or so rounds. Although i am begining to think that the piston head or cylinder head doesn't have as good of a seal as it should. I have upgraded the spring and I use a 9.6V battery. Even with thinking about the piston/cyclinder head seals it's shooting around 360 FPS with an M120 non linear spring. It should be a little higher which is why I suspect the seals. It's had about 8000 rounds go through it since I got it.

did you change out the factory lube for a silicone grease for the cylinder? this adds some output by allowing for an increased air volume to be trapped in the cylender during compression and is non-reactive to silicone spray and generally has little to no breakdown. you can pm me and i'll tell you how to make some if you don't have any.
