Thumbs up Airsoft Innovations Cyclone Impact Grenade Now (properly) Available

At long last our new Cyclone grenade is ready to ship. You can grab yours at your favourite retailer or direct from us here (http://bit.ly/1VUQTvC). Production at our Toronto headquarters is going full steam (we had to seriously expand staff to keep up with initial demand) and we’re getting some really great feedback from our early adopters around the world.

We’ve also made a pretty cool video so you can see this thing in action:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EZaTRKz5Rs

If you’re not sure what the Cyclone grenade is, it’s our newest fully reusable gas powered BB firing airsoft frag grenade. Building on our experience after creating the original Tornado grenade 6 years ago, we’ve managed to make the Cyclone smaller, lighter, more powerful, faster to reload, more reliable and (most importantly) more affordable than any grenade out there. Essentially, you set the trigger, fill with gas and BBs, destroy the enemy as you would with a real grenade, and repeat hundreds of times.

The Brass Tacks:
• Impact trigger
• 225 FPS
• 140 BBs
• $40 USD
Additional Features:
• Spherical firing pattern due to spinning action
• Uses ONLY gas and BBs. No other consumables, very economical to use
• Propane (aka green gas) or duster (hfc134a) powered and fully reusable
• Easy and fast to reload, no loose parts in the trigger mechanism
• Reliable, effective and devastatingly powerful
• Robust design using resilient acetal
• Lanyard loop on functioning spoon handle
• Reusable locking pin
• Launch Edition features bonus morale patches
• Warranty, replacement parts and great customer service
A few key differences for those who are familiar with the Tornado grenade:
• Way more powerful. The Cyclone delivers almost double the FPS per shot as the original Tornado grenade due to the new Quantum Drive engine.
• Way faster reload. Instead of using a BB loader, you simply open the body and pour BBs inside.
• Way safer to throw. Due to the lighter acetal construction instead of glass filled polymer and machined aluminum and to the smaller size, we were able to considerably reduce the weight of the grenade making it safer to throw at people.
• Way more affordable. By simplifying the design and streamlining the manufacturing process, we’re able to offer the Cyclone at less than half the initial cost of the Tornado.
Either way, thanks so much to our long time supporters and to our longtime fans who have been around since 2004 when we released the original propane adaptor. We’re a small Canadian company working hard to deliver well-engineered game-changing products that expand the airsoft experience.

Cheers,
The Airsoft Innovations Team

Question

I bought mine directly from AI when you opened sales to the people who subscribed to the notification email

I am not sure if I have a version 1 or 2;
Is there a way to identify which version I have?

GEN1s came with the limited edition patches from what I understand, GEN2s do not

I was under the impression that the current gen 2 was still being shipped with the patches and all for the time being

Anyone can confirm?

Just got a batch in the shop recently from AI and they had all the patches. Would assume the "gen 2" comes with them as well.

That said, after handling and testing a few of them, I've noticed the outer rim of the indexing notch at the bottom of the grenade tends to have a bit of flashing. It seems to make attaching the base cap ever so slightly more difficult. A quick trim with an exacto blade fixes the issue and makes indexing the tab/notch and putting the cap on a bit easier.

Yep, still patches.

We're not calling the current release product Gen 2 because few of the initial release got out into the wild. Furthermore, we don't consider the changes we made to fix the problems we saw in the first release as an improvement. Something was wrong that had to be made right which is why we stalled our launch.

A fellow named Steven Thong in Ottawa is making some FragOUT clips for Cyclones:

While I can't comment on the Cyclone clips, he did make myself and my teammates some kydex sheaths for our Cold Steel Bowies and they're solid quality.

I actually found tight-fit STANAG mag pouches to work perfectly with these. If you've got a couple to spare, it's worth trying out. Just make sure they're not too loose; I kept the original straps that come attached to the mag pouch, but repositioned and re-tied them so that they wrap around the pouch, rather than normal, where they hang over top, as part of holding the STANAG in. For best performance, I suggest changing out the pin for a much shorter one, and putting them in top-first. If you'd like me to show you how I made my short-pins, let me know and I'll make a quick photo tutorial.

Please do. 2 of my team mates have a couple of these each and I'm picking up 2 or 3 myself.

I had the same problem with the bottom not going on, I shaved down the plastic a little bit and wrapped some hockey tape around to get a better grip. Once I got it on the first time it's only gotten easier, but it was not easy the first time.

Think you can file it a bit to fit in, but for me i have to put a lot of downforce pressure to get it on, sometimes i just get so irritated, but 3rd try the charm i usually end up being ok.

I contacted airsoft innovations about the base plate as well. They said that some of the base plates are very tight and you just need try harder basically.

Ended up using a jar opening tool and once I got it on the first time its loosened up and works fine now.
