Tokyo Marui SPAS-12 thread

So I'm a big TM addict (and the SPAS-12 is my all time favourite shotty), therefore I recklessly ordered one of these for the hell of it. I've done some reading on them, seen disassemblies, videos, reviews, etc. but I want to hear from you gangstas.

Own one? Like it? Hate it? Done any modifying? I'm looking to chop down the outer-barrel to shorten it up a bit. Maybe try to get some stronger spring-compression by shimming it up a little.

Tell me all your juicy gossip about the TM SPAS-12, ASC.

Owned one, loved it, sold it to get my M249 back, happy with my 249 but I consider it a loss.

The TM tri shots being the Mothers of all Clones are simply the best springer shotguns you can get. They're about as good as they can be right out of the box.

I wouldn't chop anything because your false tube magazine runs almost full length, and you'll have a hell of a time getting all of the bits (including the front sight post) to match up/ reattach correctly.
I knew of a guy who had modified some longer inner barrels to work in his M3 and I've always wanted to try that (on a clone, mind you), but the current inner barrels may be pretty well matched for cylinder volume already.
They work pretty friggin good as it stands. If I were to recommend anything it might be to open it up and re-lubricate everything... but that's not really necessary either. Increasing spring pressure will probably hurt longevity one way or another, definitely a delicate game.

I'd recommend running it first and see how you feel about it before you do anything. Performance out of the box might be 'Good Enough' until you encounter a failure and have to crack it open.

The gigantic tactical sights are super easy and intuitive to pick up, but some high-vis or glow in the dark paint inside the ring and on the front post might help in low light.

Be a bit careful that when you pump the thing you're doing so in a clean, straight line. They suffer from the same problems as other pistol-grip shotties (though not nearly as much as most clones) where there's a ton of stress put on the join between the pistol grip and the receiver every time you cycle it. Over time it'll get all creaky and wobbly back there, or even break if you're an Ogre.
If you can get one of those fappable folding stocks, that'll help take some stress off of the pistol grip.

Basically, what you've got in a SPAS 12 is an overbuilt early concept gun that is designed as more of a breaching tool than a combat shotgun. The thing is built to take down doors first and badguys second. It's also probably one of the meanest looking firearms ever to make it into production.

Enjoy it for what it is, but if you absolutely have to tinker with it, make sure you post your adventures here so we can all learn too.

Solid advice; Im going to be using it for some outdoor CQB stuff in tandem with my BASR. I think I'll leave it unopened in that case until it runs out of "Marui magic", then ill attempt some tinkering. One goal is to put up a full disassembly video in English on Youtube, as there are very few takedown videos on the TM SPAS-12 (the only complete one being in French).

Looking forward to back-slinging this thing for some building-to-building creeping. I will keep your inner-barrel suggestion in mind!

Always sage advice when considering Tokyo Maruis. I'm just stoked to dummy some fools CQB style with this thing.
