Snap on night vision optic
There is a part in "Tears of the Sun" where the commander snaps on a night vision optic on his m4a1. This move is done very quickly without having to "dial" in the red dot. Are there scopes (more importantly, red dot) that can be removed and replaced on again very quickly without have to set it.

Something like what you're describing was on show at IDEX 2005,

http://idex.janes.com/docs/idex2/sec...into-day.shtml

Made by Pyser-SGI, it attaches behind the sight, and doesn't effect the zero.

Here it is on their site.

Hope I've been helpful. Best I could do.

Sorry 'bout that, prolly only good if you bother to get yourself a Jane's account. I'll leave it up anyways, still not a bad article.

As for the sight on backwards, I wouldn't know, don't know all the models of Hollowpoint, and won't have the money for one... Ever

I think you'll find you are mistaken, Torn. That would appear to be an EOTech holosight, and it would indeed be installed the correct way around (long end away from the eye).

I believe that the Eotechs are supposed to be mounted the other way around, with the laser light to the rear (in the long end)

could be wrong tho, that's just the way I've always mounted my holosights (not eotech, but still holosights)

Hey, you believe what you want. You don't need to take my word for it. I only come out with this stuff cause I like to see myself type. Not because I'm politely sharing knowledge, or anything.

Laser light? The big bulge is merely used to hold batteries. Holosights are very, very different from reflex sights.

To answer your question, I need to clear up a few things. One, you are right, it is a night vision optic that he takes off (AN/PVS-14). It does not have a red dot in it (The Aimpoint in front of it is the actual sight with the dot in it), so taking the PVS-14 off does not affect the zero of the rifle/optic.

http://www.gggaz.com/products/itt_6015pvs14_mount.php

Now as to the ability to remove a sight and remount it without loss of zero, this is dependent on the type of mount you use. Thumb screw mounts will rarely return to zero. A thrower lever style mount will be able to accomplish this, but some of them will lose zero after too many uses and will need to be readjusted (ARMs mounts). Larue Tactical also uses thrower levers to secure an optic to the rail, but it is much better at it than ARMs mounts, thus it is less likely that zero will be lost when the optic is removed and remounted.

What I'm looking for is some with a THROW LEVER like this GG&G EO Tech Accucam Quick Release Mount but one that you can mount a Aimpoint Reddot or Night Vision

If you want one that can mount an aimpoint, I would recommend the Larue Tactical aimpoint mount. It's the best out there. Other thrower lever systems for the Aimpoint include the ARMs#22 rings. As for Night vision, without knowing what system you use, there is no way to say if they will both work.

Holosights are different from eotechs. The eotech in the picture above is mounted correctly.

huh, who'd have thunk it, looks odd to me, probably because I'm used to the other style of holo/reflex sites.
