attack of the hot mosfet
Gates SSR pico gets real hot fast, powered by a Tenergy 11.1v 1000mah 20c battery.
The heatshrink gets goo-ey. Share your thoughts, is this normal? too much power for it? Its 16ga silver wire + deans

That doesn't sound right.
What RoF are you getting, are you sure the shimming is right? Do you have a multimeter? I've seen a few lemons and I ALWAYS get RoF drops when I use them, but I did run one to 39 RPS at 340 FPS without it getting warm. I don't know a lot about electronics, maybe Stealth can chime in. |

way too hot... you have some excessive current draw going on... I'd check the shimming. The pico fets shouldn't get that hot... on top of that, it shouldn't get hot enough to damage the heatshrink.

27 rps @ around 290fps. GBBR shimmed it. I've yet to pick up a multimeter ![]() 40rps and 340fps is what I'd like! Here it comes, my trigger is a microswitch

In fact, most Mosfets on the market aren't for microswitches. For those interested in more technical reading: http://extreme-fire.com/Micro-Switch-Bounce.pdf John Last edited by Stealth; March 30th, 2014 at 03:59.. |

the bouncing of the microswitch causes the mosfet to flip on and off very rapidly
You could try buying a much higher quality microswitch, I bet they're less than $8 lol |

If you read the doc Stealth linked, it shows you what you should look in a Microswitch. It also gives a part number to help.
Here's the one Gandolf used in his test: http://www.digikey.ca/product-search...=V7-1S17D8-022 I'm sure with a bit of Google-fu, you can find out the best one for you. |

Are you still using the micro switches from Active Surplus in Toronto and rated for 11 amps?
Have you tried an OMRON V7-1S17D8-022 ?
