How do you make the rubber look very much like steel?

I made them for sale (exactly for order, except 2 of mine)... to UK, Canada, California, locally, and even New Zealand.
They are made from hard rubber (made from reused cabels), wood, and nails sometimes small piece of fiberglass laminate. I paint the blade first black, after that I spongue-paint the blade with diluted silver paint mixed with black paint (before I used Humbrol steel color, but this mix do the same effect).
