Helmet Help

Hey all,

I just got a new Carbon Helmet in from a local swap meet (I think it's a Huang's Replica) and I was wondering what I could do to it.

The way my goggles and Facemask are set up right now is pretty snagtastic; are there any tips on how to help with that? I know Ops-Core makes 36mm Goggle Clips for these helmets, but permanent modification to the strap is something I'd like to avoid. Vecro'ed straps like with the Revision PDQ or similar concept is also something I've seen, but I don't think Arena makes Flakjaks with those kind of straps, so modification comes into play again. The Face Mask straps don't fit into the Corner O2 Mask Clips on the ARC Rails, either. They're about 2mm too long, so I have to strap them over top of the helmet.

Also, the padding inside seems to be MICH Padding, not FAST Padding. Should I keep the MICH pads in, or swap in Ops-Core pads?

Any thoughts on Velcro? The guy before me seemed to really despise it since he removed all of the velcro off the helmet save for a patch on the right hand side above the ARC and three little squares at the back.

It seems a lot of people have really 'operator' lids, and I want to catch up with this being my first modular helmet setup.

P.S. What are these squares for? My initial thought was V-Lites, but they're only on one side.

Regarding the pads, I would suggest replacing them if they don't fit properly or are uncomfortable. The MICH padding was probably used because that probably suited the previous owner better than the stock pads or because they (MICH pads) are inexpensive and plentiful.

Regarding the goggle strap, you may consider adding a velcro pad to the back of the helmet (just above the nape adjuster wheel) and then use double sided velcro cable ties to help keep your goggles in place. I have also seen people thread zip ties or para cord through the lower rear arc rail slots to retain wandering goggle straps.

Definitely get the ops core goggle strap mounts, straps are easy to replace anyway.
And if it's the mich gel pads, they're more comfortable than the ops-core hard foam.

Ooh, that's a good idea.

Is it worth it to buy the actual Carbon Velcro Kit? I've seen some for sale for around $10 and it has that back bit already pre-cut to fit between the ARCs.

So the swivel clips, then mod the straps?

They're not MICH Gel Pads. They're like this weird, almost dry foam that's kinda hard but springy. It's not memory foam, but it's also not like a sponge foam kind of thing.

To retain my goggle strap I used paracord like danhay mentioned through the o2 mask clip slots, eventually though I got a war bungee from War Sport ind. It works like a charm for retention of goggles and other various things.

The goggle clips are awesome though if you don't mind modifying the strap, that is the way I would take if I didn't have smiths.

You also mentioned using a face mask, I assume you mean a mesh one? If so, and you want a cleaner and easier to use strap system cut off or remove the normal strap and replace it with two short elastic straps or shock cord for either side and tie them into the o2 mask clips. It may take a little messing with to get the fit right but it works great.
