Low or Mid cap mags for cybergun Galil SAR???

Just got my grubby little hands on a Cybergun Galil SAR and its pretty sweet! However, as no high cap mag policies are common in MilSim events, Im wondering if anyone has seen any low or Mid caps for this gun OR any tips on alternatives that work.

So far all I can find are high caps, so Im thinking on trying to jerry rig one to see if I can turn it into a mid cap.
Other then that Im hoping some mid cap AK mags will fit.

from what i gather you are prety much SOL the only mags are the cybergun/cyma highcaps for that gun so youll be stuck with yer rattle.
there are some roumors or modding ak47/74 mags to fit but there is no real diy for it and it seems its a lil hit n miss getting them to work well.
your other option would be to buy some ak mags and some galil hicaps and try to put the guts of the ak mags into gutted hicap shells and make mid caps, again that could be dificult but its likey easyer then tryin to make the ak mags work on there own

you can try a 74 style magazine with a bit of tape to stop it from wobbling but otherwise a King arms should work as well

CYMA mag fix...sort of.

Ok... so I bought a mid cap CYMA AK mag and dremel'd the front lip of the mag to fit the Galil. As you can see the mags are just about identical and the holes match up. Also, if you look carefully the AK mag is about a millimetre longer from front to back then the Galil Hi cap mag. I thought this might be an issue, but they both give the same amount of rearward play when in the gun.

Other than that, the AK mag fits in there like it was made to.

However.... after loading the CYMA mid cap and trying to fire, it shot one or two rounds then nothing. After a few tries I took out the mag to inspect it. I went to unload the mid cap and discovered the problem: The BB's are not feeding smoothly at all.
When I press the release on the a high cap mag, the bb's come flying out, with this CYMA, they stop and stutter taking a good shake to get am all out.

Is this typical of CYMA mags? Is there a remedy for this? Also, not sure if this is normal for mid caps as up until moving back home High caps where all I've ever used.

Once this feed issue is resolved, I think that these AK mags will work perfectly.

what brand BBs?

there's mods you can do like reshaping the follower so it's more helpful to push BBs out rather than getting caught on a curve.

Oh man.. good question. I bought them a while ago at a shop in Italy. they're .25's and were sold in blank bags of 3000, so your guess is as good as mine. As for the mod, it seems like the follower may be jamming under the pressure of the bb's.

try some madbull ipsec or bb bastards before you go cutting anything up. Most of the time you can work around the issue of bad feeding.. not all BB polishes are the same, some are stickier when you put them in a spring fed mag.

Update: CYMA mid cap Almost there...

I know its been a while, but I've finally got around to working on this again. I pulled the mag interior out of the metal shell and had a good look at how exactly it needs to sit in there to feed well.

I found, like others that have tried this, that the CYMA mag needs to sit a little further back, about 1-2mm, and the back needs to come up about double that.

I solved the front end issue easily enough, at least temporarily, by slipping a piece of zip tie in behind the metal lip on end. That seems to have given it the rearward adjustment it needed.

As for the back end, I realized that the catch on the magazine on the CYMA is about 5mm or so too high and as a result the mag needs a little lift to feed well. If I rock it back and up it feeds perfect. Since the mag catch is made of plastic and is part of the interior, Im thinking of using an epoxy resin or something similar to build it up that extra 5mm. I figure if I give the good news with some good quality epoxy then I can file it down to where I need it.

Stay tuned!
