SL8 or SVD?
Guys I'm looking for a DMR. I've cut out a bunch of options, and it's boiled down to two guns: The ARES SL8 or a King Arms or CYMA SVD.
Before anyone starts bringing up ARES' alleged problems, It would appear from reviews that this particular rifle has no ARES proprietary hardware in it, and is simply another AEG. If anyone owns one and knows differently, please share. As for the Dragunov, I'm still trying to figure out what brand to buy. My kit is fairly PMC-style, so I'm leaning towards the modern polymer grips, and perhaps even a folding stock variant. What company makes those? My one qualm with it is the scope. A tad pricy. Does any ak side-mounted rail system attach to the mount on the Dragunov? I want to know the good and the bad guys. This will possibly be the last gun I buy for a while, and I want it to be awesome. Help me please |

Both brands make fairly solid internals. It really comes down to personal preference, which gun do you like more? If you're looking for an SVD with a folding stock, google SVD-S.
If it were up to me, I'd buy the SVD if I wanted a good looking wall hanger and the SL8 (or any other AEG) if I wanted to game the gun. The length of the gun typically doesn't make a huge difference on accuracy or reliability, most AEGs run v2 Gearboxes anyways and you could even use an Mp5 as a DMR if you were so inclined. Long guns tend to be cumbersome and restrict movement, often forcing you to change your sling configuration depending on what you're doing -- unless of course you're one of those tall 6'5+ guys. |

Thanks for checking in. I'm looking for a gun to game with, so I'll probably pick up an SL8 when the money is there. Lots more custom options as well :I

I would go with the SVD or even a normal M16. The Ares SL8 just doesnt feel that solid. The plastics are pretty flexible and it makes clicks and cranks noices here and there.
