Cleaning kit

My new C-TAC M4 did not come with a cleaning rod. Where would I buy some cleaning patches and a rod?

.22 cleaning kit works. You can get one at CanTire or Walmart.

Yup

Airsoft BB = 6mm
.22 = 5.5mm

.22 cleaning rod works fine. Of course, don't use any of the oils or solvents that may come with a cleaning kit, and never use the wire brush. Only use the rod, patches and your airsoft grade silicone oil.

I picked up a cleaning kid from CT. They only have the three peice screw together, aluminum type, they go together seemlessly and I have not had any issues except that the rod itself and the and the little eyelet loop cloth holder thing fit very tight in the barrle if you dont use just the smallest cloth. However, I am using a brass barrel I belive and the rod is aluminum. So I dont think the soft aluminun will scuff the brass but who knows what will happen when using the rod on an aluminum barrel. I am still going to grab a plastic barrel rod one as soon as a see someone with more then one!

Usually they're made of aluminum or brass. Some are made of polymer/plastic.

The metal ones I use some heat shrink to buffer against metal to metal. You could coat the whole thing, which would make it tough to break down, but I've only ever put a small piece over either side of the threaded joints.

Now that you mention it, the alloys I think over time if there is any contact what so ever will eventually cause scoring. One of the threads I was reading mentioned that some barrels are coated. I'll have to give this some more thought and try to find something non metallic that can be adapted to the job.

Considering most barrels are made of metals significantly harder than aluminum, I don't think anyone has anything to worry about when it comes to scuffing the interior of the barrel with the cleaning rod itself. And like it was mentioned, when the parts of the cleaning rod are properly screwed together, the rod is seamless. It's impossible to damage your barrel that way.

If you have a coated barrel (not very common, and only available as after-market), you're more likely to damage it by the edge of the eyelet attachment scratching the coating than the side of the rod touching the barrel wall.

So this shrink tubing the rod connections, while a cool idea, is overkill, not necessary, and serves absolutely no real purpose.

I was thinking about clearing the barrel from a jammed BB as well. A wooden dowel the right length would be safer for the barrel?

I was just thinking what I could possibly use and whack! A light came on... I have a Bamboo tree out in the backyard which should offer up some nice light rods.
