My review of the KA p90 midcap

I was supposed to get 2 of them, but UNcompany only had 1 left by the time I got to order, so I'm unable to test a second one for corroboration or consistency.

The KA mag is build similar to the MAG brand midcap, but instead of having the 3rd turn in the BB tube, it only has 2 turns, subsequently max load is 100 instead of 150 or 180 found in other midcaps.

Externally the plastic doesn't feel too brittle and it doesn't creak too much... it's plastic on plastic, it'll creak when you move it. That's not a huge concern to me, apparently it's a concern to others.

It's very similar in appearance to the MAG midcap, the plastic is just a touch lighter in colour and a bit more transparent and definitely more flexible than the MAG material. It has no trades.

My biggest complaint, the end cap has 4 little feet on it that clamp it to the end of the magazine. These 4 feet are what guide the mag into the magwell on top of the gun.

The feet are obviously welded on, there's a clear seam, and like the MAG brand mags, they already show discoloration from stresses of movement, either shipping or just handling. It was already a little discolored on arrival.

The MAGs in comparison, I own 8... 4 in one box arrived all broken. a 5th in a brand new box that came fine sheared and broke in the safezone before the first game, and only from inserting and pulling it from a snug but not tight mag pouch.

The TM lowcaps don't seem to be made in this way, at least not that I can tell and the fit is much nicer, of the few TM mags I have, this problem seems to be minimal, but due to the design of the cap the 2 90 degree bends are the likely spots for the plastic to sheer. Time will tell how long the KA endcap will last. .

Feeding... She feeds all 100 rounds without issue. no doubles, no weird behavior like an odd shot dropping or dry fire or double feeds. I burst, I semied and full mag dumped it, and there were no issues.

In comparison, the MAG brand ones sometimes showed a rare round just dropping out of the stream of BBs coming out, or it would dry fire every now and then until the it was half empty.

The 2 cheap pro arms mags I have fed flawlessly, but their retention nubs are not of the highest quality.... meaning one doesn't hold the BBs in the mag.

The gun I was using was a TM body, TM hopup, TM upper reciever, CA proline gearbox. cheetah 2n triggermaster and 11.1v lipo running about 70% speed.

I was using .25 airsoft centrals and .25 bastards.

Price for the mag is around 11 bucks depending where you can find it, in singles or box of 5.

Nice review. I've never been impressed with the build quality or feeding ability of MAG P90 mags.

Yeah, the MAG midcap does something weird to the nozzle when it's fully loaded, I suspect it breaks the airseal on certain nozzles, but I can't prove it, at least not without ordering 1 of every nozzle on the market.

edit: also, the best design of these end caps goes to the crappy PRO-arms mags... the feet are part of the body mold so there's no chance of them breaking off... It's too bad nobody else decided to do it this way.

update:

KA mag performed flawlessly again today, the MAGs had a few bad shots where they just dropped. And more feet from the endcaps on the MAGS broke off. derp.

Bad news about the pro arms mags... Loading one in the morning, it suffered a catastrophic failure... 3 screw mounts failed while the mag was under tension and 160 rounds ended up everywhere.. it was a spectacularly entertaining failure.

The second mag is showing cracks near the end of the magazine closest to the screw. No doubt that mag will also explode soon enough. And thus ends the experimentation with PRO ARMS mags.
