G&P Defender Infor Needed

I'm looking to buy my first AEG and would appreciate advice on what gun to get. I like the look of the G&P Defender but came across some comments about problems with the internals like gears shearing off at the axle. If this were to happen would it be expensive (and easy for a novice) to repair? Can anybody provide a link or info on replacement parts that will fit which will increase the reliability and durability of the gun. Thanks.

G&P guns are great AEG and like any AEG needs shimming out of the box for longer durability.

G&P is no exception.

Better buy a gun with excellent externals and fix the internals when they break than buying shit clearsoft and wasting all money in making it durable.

GO G&P

If you're a novice then any kind of internal mechbox repair will be challenging. G&P use TM compatible parts so the vast majority of aftermarket parts will fit.At this point you should worry about getting your gun first before replacing the stock parts.

Gears like this will work:

http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/ai...d_Gear_Set.htm
http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/ai...e_Gear_Set.htm

These modify "drop in" gearsets are also self shimming (AFAIK though if one part breaks the whole unit is toast, whereas with other gearsets you can just replace that one part that breaks):

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=30879

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=30876

PS: Pick the appropriate bearing size for your gearbox/gun, ie. 6mm, 7mm, or 8mm like how the stock gearbox is.

Also Guarder is a pretty good brand as well: http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/ai...i_AEG_V2_3.htm I run some Guarder stuff in my gun.

You can change one gear in a Modify gearset, however, I don't know if you need any special tools.

And DO NOT order from AirsoftPost.

Use AirsoftParts.ca

Oh right.... Evike/Airsoftpost seem to always screw international customers.

@OP: Find another distributor of that brand of parts. In terms of brands Prometheus is generally touted as being the best while Modify and Guarder are economical alternatives that are considered "upgrades" but it's like the difference between putting a stage 1 turbo and a stage 4 turbo in a car. They're both "upgrades" but one will cost more and be "better".

Also IRT the gear ratios. I would say high torque is probably what you want especially if you're planning on pulling something like an M120 spring (~380-400 FPS). Don't get me wrong, high speed gears can probably do it but it's probably best if you use high torque gears with a "standard" stock motor. Although what I have in my rifle are high speed gears and a high torque motor (don't ask, it was just built that way).

Thanks for the replies. One more question on this. If replacing the gears with the Prometheus ones what would be a good piston upgrade

A stock TM piston will give you the most bang for buck.
