AR-15 upper/lower receiver wobble?

My VFC metal body has a slight wobble near the back of the receiver between the upper and lower half. Does anyone know any good remedies? I've read that for real steel, people buy rubber wedges to jam in there, but I worry that it won't fit on our AEGs because the gearbox gets in the way and the shape won't fit. I also am concerned that even if I dremel out the wedge to fit on top of the gearbox, it might interfere with the charging handle spring when you pull that back?

Upper/lower receiver wobble is common on the AR platform. The Accu-wedges contribute nothing to performance for real-steel only and only acheive one thing: Making pushing out the rear takedown pin a real bitch.

The upper/lower on my VFC is solid like rock so I can't give you any exact directions but if I was in your shoes I'd first investigate the tabs on the upper where they slot into the lower and make sure there is no damage.

Then I would build up some shims with a slight wedge profile that would sit right at the rear on top of the box to snug things up. I'd pick a harder plastic material and make sure it wouldn't foul the charging handle or more importantly the spring in the mechbox.

I have a King Arms HKM4D metal body and when assemble, there is absolutely zero wobble anywhere in the gun. Might just be that your body is worn or too cheap (happens with some DBoy/JG/china metal bodies)

This is not worn because it's new. And as far as it being cheap, I paid $160 for it.

Are we talking about a fully built up AEG or are you just looking at the bare upper and lower all on their own?

The upper on my has a seriously snug fit on the mechbox.

I had some wobble between the upper and lower receiver of my G&P VLTOR.. I lined the upper receiver with a bit of electrical tape and I layered it very evenly and carefully, and both receiver halves were rock solid.

I sell VFC M4/M16s and after reading the above posts I wish to say that VFC I’ve had my hands on were rock solid and none have came back for any reason much less for a lose upper. And second after hearing your problem and seeing the picture from the link you provided it seems VFC makes more than one type of receiver because the lock back bolt as shown in that picture is very different from those I sell.

Also, several people are speaking of tabs. None of the VFC I sell uses tabs. In my experience I’ve only came across one JG/Cybergun type that had a metal upper and ABS lower that used tabs. Other than that every other metal upper I’ve used that had tabs didn’t need the tabs to hold them together and I grind them off because they are designed to hold together with an overlap fitment at the rear. In fact I have no idea why companies like Hurricane cast the tabs on them in the first place.

Is it possible that you have a defective casting that somehow slipped thru inspection? VFC is known for their high quality so it is very surprising if in fact they released a design that would allow the problem you have ran into.

Here’s wishing you find a solution quickly to your problem.
