Ares SCAR-L Hop Up Problem

I bought an ARES SCAR-L in February, and the hop-up doesn't seem to work. At all. I have changed the stock barrel for a 6.03 TB, the rubber for a Madbull accelerator and cleaned the damn thing till it shines, but still not hop action. I sent the mechbox back to the supplier, who claimed to fix the problem, but after many angry calls and emails, the problem is still not solved.

I thought about replacing the hop-up unit itself, but as the ARES ones are sealed into the mechbox, I don't want to be messing with it unless I'm sure thats going to fix the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Message Daiviet about it. He has an ARES SCAR-L and is pretty much an expert with the gun imo.

I am not familiar with airsoft.

What my question is, does the element of surprise work on a typical airsoft match?

He said he installed a Madbull one. Maybe the Nub is missing.

(Unless I got my word definitions wrong)

I installed a Madbull rubber, as the silicon one I got with it split during its third day out. The nub that came with it I didn't install as I would have to take apart the mechbox and hop-unit (something I don't want to attempt yet as I've heard it can be broken easily).

I've looked at the hop-unit itself while moving the wheel, and the arm extends and retracts, but doesn't affect the trajectory whatsoever, and never did when it was stock. Its almost as if the arm isn't long enough or something. Which is why I didn't just buy another hop-up, if it was going to be exactly the same.

As for the arm of the hop-up, there has never been a nub and the supplier never supplied one when they "fixed" it.

I'm not familliar at all with the Ares Scar, but could you reach and add a nub, without opening everything up?

Maybe it just fell off when you removed the bucking, I use a bit of grease to hold my nub in place.

The ARES one is different, the outer and inner barrel assembly come out through a quick change system, and attached is the hop up rubber as well. There is no need to take apart the hop up to access the hop up rubber.

@gingerbob

can you look down and tell me how far exactly the hop up control arm is moving when you adjust it? approximately how far down does it move into the hop up chamber from none to full setting?

Alright, thanks for the clarification!

Looking down into the hop, when fully out, the bottom of the arm aligns to the top of the rear hole, if that makes sense.

I have tried fully engaging the hop so that the arm is fully down, and inserted the barrel. There is resistance when the barrel is inserted, so there must be contact with the rubber.

Yea, thats about as far as it should move down. There must be a problem with either the inner barrel or the hop up rubber then. Double check to make sure that the inner barrel was installed correctly into the outer barrel.

Regarding the original hop up rubber. They tear very easily, not the best material, however I found that with the stock hop up rubber, my gun was shooting around 360 fps, and when i switched to a new one, it dropped to around 300 fps.

Actually, my bad. The hop up control arm should extend down about 5mm from the top, and should be about 2~3mm lower than the rear hole. You may need to take apart the hop up and check to see if anything is wrong with it. Follow my mechbox takedown guide and you should be fine.
